Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How Do/Would Therapists Feel About A "Perfect" Patient?

My point is that the relationship with a therapist is NOT a relationship with an authority figure. I can understand that might be the feeling one has if you are being forced into doing therapy. But to my mind that kind of arrangement is not great to start with. A therapist is someone you are paying ...

Trying to do therapy with the idea that you are expected to do certain things and not others is not really engaging with the therapy. A therapist can only help if a client is willing to work with themselves. Having an antagonistic relationship with the therapist is just a non starter. I would sugges...

Yes, me too. Without the trauma, I feel I would have had a chance of doing quite well. That said, life ain't over and I am learning more and more about living inside of me.

I always make an effort to listen to everyone who has advice for me. That in no way means I will take it. But you never know what you might learn about yourself from others. I am aware that I cannot "see" myself very clearly, and so outside input is very useful. A mirror in which to see my...

My mind is also chaos. It is like a mush of everything all at once. If I want to get anything out of it I have to wait patiently until something recognizable comes up, and then write it down quick before I lose It! My understanding is that all "thought" comes initially from "feeling&q...

I'm with redqueenspawn on this. I find people's difficulty with mindfulness meditation is often a result of having the goal of wanting to relax. Having a goal is antithetical to mindfulness. And relaxation can be a consequence of mindfulness but it is not what we are doing sitting on the mat. Mindfu...

Letting go is hard. It's also a necessary part of life. You will get over it and you will have other partners. You have learned something about what kind of relationship doesn't work so you can choose a better partner next time. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

Time for some self care. Taking a day off sick might help? I can guarantee things at work will not all fall apart if you miss a day. Reading your post it occurs to me that perhaps it is stress from the increased responsibility at work that brought this on? Identifying why you feel the way you do can...

There is a boundary between me and the world. It's the boundary between that which I can control and that which I cannot. I try to concentrate on what I can change and leave all the rest to the hand of fate. Things have always been a crazy mess. Ever since us humans evolved. Most likely always will ...

It's very interesting to watch. As he gets more desperate his ranting gets wilder and crazier. What he says is further and further from reality. The faithful toady along behind him regardless. But as the gap widens between the lies and reality and as he repeatedly fails to keep all of his lies linin...

It's a typical behavior of narcissists. Claim victimhood while abusing everyone else.

In my experience the thing that absolutely kills shame is exposure. When I just open up and talk to people about thing things I'm ashamed of, the shame gradually decreases. I've found 12 step groups useful for this as it's a space where I can say anything I need to and there will be no reply or comm...

There is no option for: carefully reach out a finger and stroke the fly. We used to do this in Madagascar where the huge flies were very plentiful but slow. When you order a drink at a restaurant, it comes with the coaster on top to keep the flies out!

I have a similar thing. My interpretation is that I have a very small functional or working memory. When using a paper scribble pad I can keep all of the aspects of an issue in full view on the paper as a stand in for memory. Since coming up with that explanation, I find I judge myself less harshly ...

Not sure how you feel about Buddhist ideas. I'm not one, but I find the techniques useful. If that's the case, I would recommend a book called "Radical Acceptance" by Tara Brach. You can also find loads of her talks online. Great for self compassion.
