The problem with that is what an NT will take extreme offense at is something that an aspie won't even consider having the possibilty to be offensive and sometimes vice versa, due to the completely different communication styles that the majority of each group prefer to use Good point T_T, I often ...

thank you KimJ.. Getting back to the main concern of this thread, though, we really do need to figure out some sort of posting etiquette when it comes to new members. ( old members should be used to the way things are  ). Etiquette is a funny thing, some people undestand it instinctively, some...

Haven't heard of anything like that here,Ster. Would be a great idea though. It seems that all we do is swim against the current of professional opinion and ignorant preconceptions about our kids. Oh, well getting ready for another go round with his school and guess I'm feeling a bit tense so I won'...

Just a sugesstion, aurea, since your son's school has a history of not cooperating with you to provide for your son check into his and you legal rights. I know many people from Australia post here and I am sure they could point you in the right direction. I always thought fighting with the school wa...

My answer was no. When I look at my son I see a fantastic individual. He is very high functioning with an IQ well above average. He is a loving child and tries very hard to fit into this somewhat confusing world. His vocabulary already exceeds that of most adults and has been placed in all gifted an...

So many good replies. I started a reply yesterday but lost it and was called away so am going to try again. Your post struck a chord with me, Grandma, because we also call our son "Z", he has recently been demonstrating agressive behavior (including hitting), and I am convinced his teachers don't ha...

A very interesting question, Spokane-girl. I just had my 11 yo Aspie son read it with me and asked him if he would want to be "cured". His answer was no. His reasons were because the challenges he faces make him a better person and he gets more experience and learns more. I've got to get the kids to...

It used to drive me nuts(even into highschool)when classmates would just sit there and not answer...it was a waste fo time and cut into how much I could learn(particulary in Lit classes, which I loved). Call on raised hands,it's simple and easy to follow rule but not always when you are intellectual...

Paula I really do like to hear from you, you give me hope for our educational system. If "time out" works for your kids by all means stick with it. With Z we found that time out meant keeping an eye on the clock so he knew when to get up again. We call it "calmdown and control time." He is expected ...

Our son Z , now 11, was described as a "very complex child" and we were told that a lot is going on with him. His first dx was ADHD and there is no doubt about that. Current dx is ADHD/Asperger's, again we are sure this is accurate. as far as it goes. We apparently are not finished as two doctors ha...

Kris, Ztakes adderall for his ADHD. It has been very helpful helping him focus both in school and at home. We have tried other meds, ratalin, Straterra, Concerta none of which helped and others which made things worse. He takes 20 mg twice a day, the lowest effective dose for him. He is still extrem...

I'm going to try to find the right way to say this. From what I can tell from your post you have the right idea about autism, it is a neurological disorder and not a psychological one. Your ideas about how special your child is, building his self-esteem, admitting imperfection and differences in eve...
