I don't get why people find swearing funny. Bleeping out normal words so that they *sound* like swears, now that's funny, especially on a kid's show. I once saw a video of Count Von Count from Sesame Street singing, and they bleeped out the word "count" so it sounded a lot like the F word...

Food, unfortunately. I wish it weren't so. It doesn't, really, but for a brief moment it does. Without wishing to get too bleak, is there any real comfort? Isn't it just a temporary denial? None of the problems go away, they're just pushed into the background for a while. Is there something that is ...

The main problem with high IQ societies is that many of them become 'ghost societies' rather quickly. That's because merely sharing a very high IQ with others is very often not enough to keep such societies going. Is the idea that it's unsatisfying for people with high IQs to talk to people with le...

Young enough that I can't remember it. I remember a kid at my school getting it when i was 8-ish so i must have already had it at that point.

My 9 year old hasn't had it yet, sadly for her.

My understanding is that Trump intends to withdraw all US support for Ukraine, effectively handing victory to Putin. That's what he means by ending the war. He'd take that decision in the first 24hrs of his presidency. Not quite the same thing as ending the war in 24hrs but there's some truth in his...

^ The House of Lords is part of the legislative branch of the UK government. Theoretically, they are there to scrutinise legislation from the Commons and amend it if they feel it isn't workable or contradicts other existing laws. Unfortunately, what we've increasingly seen in recent years is that se...

I have a cd player in my kitchen where i sometimes listen to the few remaining CDs i own. In my living room i have a turntable where i listen to vinyl, no CD player there. My car has a CD player but i rarely ever use it, not least because the sound quality is horrible so i tend to listen to spoken w...

also if I understand correctly Nitrogen gas is inert that is to say it has no effect when breathed in,It mealy replaces the oxygen in air. So if all that was available to breath had no oxygen you would lose consciousnesses very quickly and irreparable brain damage would follow shortly after followe...

I would have considered it strange if my relatives asked me questions about my love life when i was younger. I can't imagine they'd have been in the slightest bit interested. Do you think they might ask because you're older and still visibly unattached? Perhaps they're just being respectful of your ...

They put us on a diesel generator because our power keeps going out in the high winds. So there was i feeling smug that we have power tonight even though its windy and the generator just ran out of diesel. No one is coming to fill that up tonight.

There was talk of using Ascension Island at one point iirc, but it's all just nonsense designed to placate the right wing press by sounding tough. They could have processing centres in France if they would grow up and talk to the EU about it, open up a legal route for genuine asylum seekers to get h...

I wouldn't say obsessed, but it remains in the background of our culture and influences things, even when we're not aware of it. For example much of the land in the UK is still ultimately owned by a small number of 'nobles'. These are people with titles like Lord or Duke whose families were given th...
