Sometimes I really wonder whether I truly fit in with the autistic community. Much of that is due to the issue of whether or not ASD is a disability. I see it as being one, and struggle to identify with those that don't. No matter how hard I try I can't see the reasons for wanting a diagnosis ,if yo...

I remain bemused regarding how people who have limited resources which are further depleted by the redistribution of wealth upwards continually vote for the people who drive this process. It seems like an odd kind of self harming behaviour to me. Unfortunately the Labour Party as has been said in p...

Vote share wise 2017 was an exception to that . However seats won/vote share was poor then.

I'm becoming increasingly politically disillusioned. Tories? - treat the disabled and vulnerable like crap. Labour? worryingly silent about helping the disabled and vulnerable. Lib Dems ?- They willingly went into a coalition with the Tories. Corbynite left?- All too willing to sacrifice the disable...

Autistic people often struggle with “people pleasing” and go to great lengths to keep others happy, even at their own expense. Some autistic people want to gain neurotypical approval, or, at least the very least, to fly under the neurotypical radar. This can lead directly into people pleasing behav...

I get your point about manipulation, but that doesn't apply to me at all.

Is the need to please others more an autistic than non autistic thing? Can wanting x but agreeing to y be part of the masking process?

4-7: Did reasonably well academically. First school in Bangkok saw that I had some problems, and persuaded my parents to have me tested for what we now call cerebral palsy,at Gt Ormond street . That was c1962. The result was negative, and other possibilities weren't explored. 8-13: Started at prep s...

There was one where I had to draw a connect-the-dots of some sort. I think it might have been a page with numbers and letters and I had to connect just the numbers or letters in order and ignore the others. Something like that. Maybe it was connecting every second letter / number? Something like th...

Call me silly, if you(plural) like, but I very much need a clear and precise definition of what is,or isn't 'masking'. One thing I do is agree to x- when y would be personally preferable, so as not to put the other person out.

^ That wasn't to dispute what you,or anyone else has said on this thread. It was merely to suggest that masking and high intelligence don't always necessarily go together, or perhaps go together in a way that's not readily identifiable as such.

I'm not consciously aware of ever having 'masked'. I don't make micro adjustments in real time to give a more positive impression of myself. Basically WYSIWYG with me.

As autism has gained increased attention in the past few decades, autistic advocates have adopted the phrase “Nothing about us without us,” illustrating the idea that autistic people should be centered in all conversations regarding autism. However, in a large portion of autism research, autistic p...
