Gee. And I guess we're not capable of having a well thought out, critical discussion of Autism Speaks either. (LOL!)

Thanks, Willard. That was my impression, but you expressed it very eloquently.

I will be hearing a speaker from Autism Speaks on Wednesday. What can I expect? What should I ask myself? What should I ask them?

Overwhelmed as usual!

I am seriosly considering wearing "Autistic and proud" T-shirts to school just to prove that I'm not about to hide my disability because of this news, It should stir up quite a bit of contreversy. I was thinking of a T-shirt that says, "I have Asperger's and I'm peaceful and empathetic. My sympathi...

Thank you, MikeW999. We need to focus on the direction we want to go in. I've heard that if you're a race car driver and you focus on a wall you don't want to crash into that that's exactly what will happen. Focus on our continued success and support for each other and we will get there.

You aren't officially diagnosed until you've taken the tests, been evaluated, or otherwise given a paper signed by your doctor saying that is what your diagnosis is. I've now been officially diagnosed as an Aspie twice- and the "bad" psychologists and such refuse to acknowledge either diagnosis. I'...

Up until my last visit with my psychiatrist, I have accepted that I am Aspie when it suited me. Here's a brief description of my "diagnosis" path: 1. I joined Wrongplanet.net in 2008 because I felt an affinity with others here, especially the social fears and loneliness. I do not have a conventional...

I think I am Aspie, but sometimes don't believe it. One thing is for sure: I get a lot out of this site.

What are some good online tests to take so I can get at one angle on where I stand with this?

I just thought of something for whatever it's worth: I have to use empathy in my job. I'm a technical writer and I write the help for software, so I have to imagine what it's like for that person to use the software. If they want to use the new 3D feature I have to imagine a lot of the possibilities...

From the Internet somewhere: Sympathy and empathy are separate terms with some very important distinctions. Sympathy and empathy are both acts of feeling, but with sympathy you feel for the person; you’re sorry for them or pity them, but you don’t specifically understand what they’re feeling. Someti...

I'm still back on the difference between sympathy and empathy. I think the word sympathy is often used when someone lost someone they loved. In that case, if you say you have sympathy, you mean you understand they are sad and they have your support to be that way. With empathy, though, I think it us...

This study was from 2009: http://www.healthzone.ca/health/article/633688 What's the thinking on this today? I'm not sure about myself. I know I have had empathy for others and it drives my behavior, but I go back and forth believing I am Aspie. But an Aspie friend of mine bows out of social interact...

We are both in a very small blues community and will see each other often. He is a more experienced musician, and I am a newer musician and a dancer. He is a big influence on my musical style. I expect to see him in our community a lot and his friends, who I also hold dear. I want us to understand a...
