Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: NTs also have "narrow interests".

I started this thread not to define "narrow", but to inquire as to why aspies are seen as having narrow interests and NTs are not. Why don't people say that NTs have narrow interests? I disagree with the word "narrow". As one poster has said in some other thread, better would be "specialized." If y...

Unfortunately, I cannot imagine that one would find many people on an Aspie message board who have applied to medical school. I would imagine that Aspies are much more likely to go for a Ph.D and go into research than into clinical medicine. One reason for this is because research will require less ...

Best of luck. I think that it takes a lot of courage for an Aspie to become a doctor. Its something I'm considering but leaning against. Anyway, I don't think that the fact you are changing from engineering to medicine will be as much of an issue as you think. There are plenty of med school applican...

My impression was that Calc I generally covers differentiation through basic integration, and Calc II covers volumes of solids by integration, integration by parts, trig substitutions, partial fractions, as well as sequences/series. Were things different at your school? Well, it should be noted that...

When I was younger, I used to think that what you do in your studies matches what you do in the job but I realised that skills and experience were also required and the concept that applying as a programmer in finance is different to programmer in health care. I also did not know about alternative ...

I'm taking it during the summer, along with Calculus II if all goes as planned. I am interested in mathematics in spite of being a biology major and being mathematically literate is very important to me. Everyone says that it's very difficult, and it's hard to get a straight answer. I don't underst...

I can't dance at all, and I have a feeling that I'm not the only aspie like that. It doesn't seem like an aspie thing. I ask because a few weeks ago I actually went out with a group to a club. I didn't realize it was a dance club. :x I thought everything was going to be okay because I wasn't the on...

I'm glad someone brought this up, as I think this issue of shakiness in hands is very related to Aspergers. When I'm not using my hands, they are still, but if I try to hold something steady, my hands shake. It is a problem in myself, as I make a lot of mistakes in my lab job due to my inability to ...

Anyone belong to any? I would like to get into some, but so far it seems like all the popular ones seem to revolve their functions around alcohol, which is difficult for me because I don't drink anymore. I would like to change this and get into some sort of club though. What are you involved in on ...

It is true that Asperger's Syndrome causes social awkwardness, but to assume that a socially awkward person has a high likelihood of having Asperger' Syndrome --just because he or she is socially awkward-- is ridiculous. It might sound hard to believe, but the first thought that comes into a lot of...

No autoimmune disorders that I'm aware of, nor any major allergies. But I do think that it is likely that autism and autoimmune disorders are correlated. As far as I know, allergies are NOT considered autoimmune diseases. From what I remember, it may have to do with the fact that allergies only affe...

I read Hare's book online recently. It's really well written but it is quite long. It's a long time since I've seen such nice use of language. I also read Stout's "The Sociopath Next Door". I thought that Hare's first book Without Conscience was excellent. I wasn't quite as impressed with Stout's b...

3. Third, most people forget what happens when they get drunk, so it may be difficult to accumulate social capital from going drinking. However, this may change due to the advent of facebook photos of drunken parties, but those same photos will get you in trouble with potential employers. I don't a...
