Conceptually I actually understand most of what is going on in the NT world. - It's one big, non-stop, elaborate costume party, with people competing for social rank, amongst other things - and I understand that all of this and the other stuff that they carry around is VERY IMPORTANT to them, which ...

Picked up my ADHD medication today. I can feel the effect already and it's great :!: The inner restlessness and noise is subdued and I feel calm despite some stressful things going on around me that would normally send my anxiety through the roof. I was hoping that ADHD medication would be the final...

Health is the one area of my life that I never experience Anxiety with. I'm pretty much a fitness fanatic and I have always enjoyed a fit and healthy lifestyle. In relation to most other things, I experience considerable anxiety on a regular basis, now managed with medication and getting much better...

I was never able to get a formal education, despite the fact that I love learning. I'm a fierce autodidact to this day on biological topics. The moment I graduated high school, and gained some discretion in my educational future, I opted not to go to college. My experiences in school had been extre...

@verdani What I actually heard him say (on The Coffee Klatch) was that 20-60% of those on the Autism spectrum have ADHD but that confused me a bit! Is is 20%, 60%, somewhere in the middle - was he referring to the results of different surveys/studies/research????? :? There are several different stu...

I have Skype. It is great for video calls with family and useful for business calls, video or just audio. But I sometimes find it quite intrusive when I am on the receiving end, if I am not expecting the call, unless it is my family. So I only turn it on when I am going to make a call or when I am e...

I have Asperger's and ADHD - I'm starting on Strattera this week, the first time I have been prescribed ADHD meds. According to Dr. Russell Barkley 20% of those with ADHD are on the Autism spectrum and at least 20% of those on the Autism Spectrum have ADHD. It's only in the last 6 months that I have...

I find small talk with acquaintances stressful, difficult, tiring and unrewarding, (but I can do it now). Sometimes I might seek company, but mainly only so I don't totally lose touch with people. One reason I prefer my own company is that nothing goes wrong, no surprises to knock me sideways.........

So have I, and I can't say that this label bothers me. I relish in words and their etymology. I love the sound and meaning and spelling of large words. I mainly am a fan of advanced vocabulary for the fascination and intrigue that polysyllabic words offer. "Noisy" is boring and sounds dull, whereas...

Dr. Barkley's field of study is actually ADHD and I think (I may be wrong) his intention was to highlight a clear difference in the effects of ADHD and Autism. I also agree with previous comments that one of the root causes of Autism is the difference in the way in which we process information but I...

Yeah, I really don't think that relating to other people is the "heart of autism" at all. Consider where they're coming from when they say that: They're neurotypical, mostly, and that means they are built to relate to each other. That's their specialty, and they see everything through that lens. Th...

Oddly enough... when people greet you with 'How are you?' if you simply respond with a smile and a 'hello' they are more than satisfied with that. I suppose that is anecdotal evidence that it is simply a greeting with no expectation of an answer. So true and of course I know this. The problem is I ...

I am learning how important it is to dumb things down. Partly because it makes it easier for others to understand me if I do dumb it down, particularly clients. (A practical consideration) Secondly because some people, clients, colleagues, business associates etc, are quite intimidated by intellect...

I thought 150 was genius level but regardless I expect there are quite a few geniuses here, some will choose not to identify themselves and others who aren't might claim to be........ Of course, geniuses with Autism may not be gainfully employed and even when they are, operating far below their inte...
