I was an abused child, while my siblings were very loved and cherished. Nowadays, my parents are old and totally alone and disabled, and my siblings have abandoned them. I should abandon them even more, given that they ruined my life. However, the pain I feel in my body and soul knowing them alone a...

sinsboldly, thanks. Well said, I know all about vacillating between fighting to keep a job and fighting to find a new one after losing the battle. I have such an unstable job history that nowadays I need to lie through my teeth about my resume, otherwise I'd be totally unemployable.

I can relate to all of you, because I only heard about AS last year, at age 44, after having tried everything and gotten no results. I was brought up abusively too, and severely punished and blamed for my symptoms. My family refuse to believe that I have a problem, and to this day they all blame me ...

Sorry, I didn't express myself clearly. What I mean is: is your opinion of what you are like based on what family/friends/others have told you that you are like? I ask because in my case I've learnt that what NTs say about me (including therapists) is too shallow and full of wrong assumptions for me...

The answer is simple: it's not that you have to reassure people as in a rule of politeness. It's that flattery gets you a very, very long way in life, so if you don't flatter (them or anyone else), people don't like you because they think you're someone who won't get far in life, a loser. We live in...

I used to think I had a personality, but since being on WP I've found that all the things I thought made me the unique person I am are actually AS symptoms ! !!

Maybe due to AS my values are upside-down, but for me it's a million times worse to discredit a father in front of their common daughter than to take things literally. There seems to be a problem with respecting you in your wife.

Yes, I always ask for the avice of an NT to solve my problems. My own solutions never work because of the same reasons you cite.

Is your opinion of yourself influenced by what NTs have said about you (therapists, diagnosers, family, friends, employers)?

If I were you, I'd write a report on the teacher's personality and mail it to her. "Too NT and shallow, will never be different from the herd or unique in any way, a mixture of little teacher and little old lady, has the strange belief that she's apt to describe others objectively, etc." I think it'...

In my country, AS is a condition only kids have. Forums, diagnoses, social security assistance, it's all for parents of aspie kids. We don't exist for the health system. Or maybe they think we shouldn't exist.

Especially when it comes to the things that motivate most people like materialism or to improve their standing in an imaginary ranking system such as the "social pecking order" or just competition in general. Yes, that's what I mean too. And more complex social conventions, such as NTs getting angr...

NTs do this to each other too, but they expect each other to guess what's bothering them because they know other NTs are able to guess. Aspies aren't. And I think that the ability to guess is largely connected to NTs being similar in values and therefore being able to imagine what the other is feeli...
