Well he might be a murderous dictator but he's got taste

Yeah, but many dictators have taste - Beethoven has been severly misused by basically everyone, for example. But this is bizarre on a level that defies interpretation

I feel a deep sense of peace with the absurdity of human existence after having seen this

I have only written (and made) short films, and personally adhere to a strict plot outline - but I have been listening to writers talk about their work, and British novelist Will Self's technique always seemed to make sense to me in regards to how to maintain a certain cohesiveness as a novel grows:...

There are lots of good arguments for why kids should go to school, but the question is whether schools actually do all or any of these things. The education system i grew up in mainly did one thing: selection for specific jobs. The final grades are only important if you aim for specific courses at u...

I do, too. But Carlin forgets something, or never knew, and possibly didn't ask himself: why is religion there at all? - The neuroendocrinologist Robert Sapolsky considers it nature's anti-depressant. Carlin has had a nice career being angry, he has a nice house, wealth, probably family, I don't kno...

It's a long running liberal fantasy, but I really, really, REALLY do NOT think she is interested. Among other things, she is well aware that she has privilege with her image right now that she would no longer have. Watching that clip, though ... Barack Obama did have charisma, didn't he? But least ...

Not exactly pixel art - but what you're describing, getting lost in the details of a drawing. I do that, too

I had tried something like that myself but it just drove me insane.

It also drove the guy insane, so much so that he believed he was hearing the voice of god.

The desire for a "special someone", coming from a man, also carries with it the way men are raised to treat each other. You can have male friends, but if what you need is someone to just so much as physically touch you more than once, briefly, every five years, you're better served with a d...

Is it finally going to be socially acceptable to crap in the sea now? I've been waiting ages for the moment I can do more than just pee in the Bristol channel.

Those toilets are so far away.

That's exactly what Brunell had in mind when designed that bridge

To be honest, sea level rise doesn't particularly shock me either, mainly because it looks like it will take a while. Extreme weather, droughts and days with over 40°C are here now and making life acutely worse, from famine to heatsroke, depending on how rich the society you're in is right now. Some ...

So worst case scenario, we become Hungary? Worst case scenario: you become Hungary without the shackles of EU human rights legislation, but nukes. Orban is the tiny irrelevant dictator of a tiny irrelevant nation. It's bad for Hungarians, particularly women and LGBT+, but ourside of Hungary, except...

There would not be anarchy and ww3 - either the encumbent would go on until another round of elections was held, or an interim government would take over day to day business. At some point an election would be held with mandatory voting because simply put, this one act of making a cross somewhere is...

The “undemocratic” argument re: the EU simply isn’t a very good one. Anyone who was old enough to vote in the referendum should be old enough to remember voting in the European elections to elect MEPs. The Council of Europe is literally the democratically elected heads of government, while each cou...

And the one who did stand by her pro-Brexit choice told me how she found it incredibly frustrating that the whole issue had become so hijacked that any reasonable conversation would end in an argument and occasionally, ostracism. I do find her argument valid, though - just, not under a tory governm...
