Thanks everyone for the wishes and congrats. I am so happy and at peace. I feel that this big huge weight has lifted off my shoulder. I also no longer feel as if I am tied down, plus, I have taken away 80% of the stress in my life. My stresses are mostly related to other people's intentions and espe... |

That's wonderful! I think one of my kids might end up needing help to live alone but we are working hard to find a way around it. If he does I hope it's not in a residence, at least not long term in a residence. I think what he'll need is more someone to come by everyday and make sure he got his pi... |

I just moved into my own apartment with no staff assistance needed. I am very happy. After years of inappropriate residential services and "watching after", I am finally out. I am actually doing much better on my own that I did living there, not just emotionally, but independence wise, as well. The ... |

I'm 27 & in some ways I feel much older because I kind of have a conservative lifestyle that is more common amongst the older generation; I have conversations with older people about how society's values/morals are going down hill. But most of the time I feel like I'm still a kid because I have... |

I could never hold a job, do clubs and/or do much when I am in school. Physically and mentally it would be too much. That was the mistake I made 12 years ago. Now, I am glad I am on disability during school because I could never function, do school, or work, never mind clubs without some physical br... |

Before this thread, I once thought that people with ASDs are not meant for colleges. It must be due from the experiences I had personally. In the place where I live, there are a handful of university students with ASDs, but somehow they dread college. In addition, there is the prevalent thinking pr... |

STORY OF MY LIFE!! !! College and school work is my element, especially my anatomy, biology, and math. I even loved oral communication because I could talk about my Asperger's and anything. I love school. The only reason I do not do it in the summer is so that I could reread my anatomy book and get... |

Thank You, Psygirl6! That's what I mean. I think he wants to try, but keeps procrastinating, thinking there's not enuf funding, or worrying about other things. I am so glad to hear you're doing soooo well! I know Tim will also! I think much of it was my "co-worker" who caused so much trouble. With ... |

1. Community College Rhode Island 2. Histology technician 3. I found that college has the best supports and encouragement I ever had. Plus all of the friends I made, many of them who have Asperger's. Plus, I loved my classes and feel like I am on top of the world. 4. Yes I would. 5. My experience is... |

I have Asperger's and I am going back to school for a medical career. I am going to be a Histology Technician, since I will be working in a lab without dealing with people. I also love tissues of the human body and labs are very quiet. I actually started back up with school back in September when I ... |

No you are not too old. If anything it is great that you have an emotional comfort. I still sleep with the same stuffed animals that I have slept with since I was a baby. I am 31, will be 32 in November, and I have had them since 1978-79. I would not know what to do if I did not have them. Everyone ... |

My biggest fear in life is that I would lose my intellectual edge. Than, i would be stuck back in a group home and disabled programs for ret*d people being looked down on and bossed around, being treated like an ingrate. It is my intellectual edge that make everyone like me and respect me as a perso... |

I am a logical thinker. That actually is supposedly one of the things that people with Asperger's have. I think it is a great thing because I can make reasonable decisions without my "heart" getting in the way. People I know tend to make decisions with emotions and it ends in a mess because they do ... |

I love anatomy. I am going to school to be a histology technician to study tissues of the body. What I loved about anatomy was that I had an awesome professor, who taught anatomy at so many different levels, including an histology level, where we examined all of the tissues in the body organs, bones... |

I always see college, or any grade as work for your future. I do not know how someone could get drunk all night and have to study, get up for an 8am class while doing all that partying. I know we need a break once in a while, but think of the consequences to all of that partying. If these kids did s... |
