You know the ones I hate even more? When someone just puts a sad face as their status then everyone writes 'what's wrong?' even though you know for a fact that they probably will not tell you! I ignore those ones and look for a friend who has something interesting to say. As most of my friends have ...

Before panicking that you might have an illness or disorder, it might be worth trying a few steps that I have found useful for a similar problem. The first thing I did was completely cut out the caffiene. It sounds mad, yes that is what was keeping me awake during the day, but I was getting a massiv...

There are two possibilities I can think of. Firstly, I understand you have been tested for epilepsy, however some seizures do not show up on a regular EEG, quite often those that originate in the temporal lobe. The temporal lobe contains a lot of our emotion control which could explain why you get a...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: The Autism Act in the UK, can someone explain it to me?

Basically speaking from what I have read and been told about the autism act, I believe it is going to make it easier for people to get a diagnosis of ASD and the correct treatment. At the moment getting a diagnosis is a difficult process as you get referred to a mental health service before you get ...

The tests are only a guideline, but they can give some indication as to whether you are on the spectrum or not. I think some people, including members of my family, fit the Broader autistic phenotype (BAP) so they have autistic traits, but not enough, or enough impairment, to fit the diagnosis. I am...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Do you tell people you have AS without a diagnosis?

Before I was diagnosed I used to tell people 'I'm pretty sure I have Aspergers but I am not diagnosed'. Most people agreed with me. In fact it was after I got my diagnosis that half my family went 'WHAT!?' and started questioning it. I think that might be because half my family fit into the spectrum...

It is indeed called emetephobia. I had it and still do to a lesser extent. It is often caused by childhood trauma involving either yourself or seeing someone else vomit. In my case my Mum suffered from severe Menieres disease and every time she got a dizzy spell she would be violently sick. Just lik...

And then people get upset. Why? You didn't know I wouldn't enjoy your gift. It's better you know now, then ask me about it later, and I already returned/regifted it. What is worse though is when you do tell them you don't like it yet they get you the same darned thing the next year! I GIVE UP! I te...

I'm still not sure what I think of the movie yet and these clips don't really make me think 'wow that looks amazing' or 'oh no it's rubbish!' I will have to reserve judgement for when I actually see it in the cinema (us unlucky Brits have to wait until mid January :( ) I think the thing is that we h...

A lot of people think I am a guy as well. If I am not sure of someone's gender I click on their profile and check.

Also Joe 90 is this the programme you are talking about actually titled Joe 90?

I'm really not that bothered because I already got re-diagnosed with ASD. It's not a demotion at all, that was poor wording on the OP's part. Not all people with HFA have IQs over 100 but that doesn't make us any less special.

I've recently started watching Big Bang Theory because one of my carers said I reminded her of Sheldon! I asked her what she meant and she said because you speak really intelligently but you're also socially naive! The writers of BBT have insisted that Sheldon was NOT based on a person with AS, howe...

Unfortunately I have extremely out of control type meltdowns. I can become violent, agressive and destructive. Plates often get smashed during meltdowns. I bite myself and others, I scratch (my old care home had a lady come in to cut my nails!), I charge at people and I usually end up getting restra...

I've had problems with eye contact since I was little. It's only as I've got older that other people have really started to have an issue with it. I live in care and the amount of times I hear 'LOOK AT ME' or 'ARE YOU LISTENING!?' because I am not glaring at the other person's eyes is frustrating. B...

Hello. It's sadly very difficult to get a diagnosis past the age of 17 in the UK. I found that the NHS either refused or were unwilling to investigate the possibility that my condition (then undiagnosed) might be an ASD. The only way to get a professional to see you is to make a lot of noise (as my ...
