Thanks for posting this. I'm a bit amazed that anyone is looking into this. The part about Parkinson's is interesting and the kind of information that sure as heck ought to be made known.

Yup, I recognize a lot of the stories in this thread. With medical doctors I've learned to play dumb and they happily eat it up. I think the social status goes to their heads. I've met some incredibly smart people (I.e. who went to the best math grad school in the world (I was a student in another d...

I basically tried with pure willpower, but the result was massive burnout, among other things. A long time ago I found out I had various food allergies/intolerances, and avoiding those foods does make me feel, better. I suspect, though, that having any difficulty is made worse if you're being made u...

I relate, OP. And also with the hallway thing. I think 99% of the population is spoiled in the sense that their instincts have always helped them more than hurt. Which, I think, leads to an unconscious (or even conscious) arrogance that their feelings/instincts are always right. It's probably hard f...

I've had some difficulties with doctors, but unfortunately I have no choice to avoid them. I don't know why some people think that you have to be rude or offensive to have difficult interactions with them. I'm always polite, respectful & never get loud but things still tend go sideways for reaso...

For those who were too lazy (as I was until now), to click that link... Although quantitative mathematical models can guide clinical decision making, clinicians rarely use formal computations to make patient care decisions in day-to-day practice. Rather, an intuitive understanding of probabilities i...

Regarding the radiation blasting of the surface: I was reading about how naked mole rats never get cancer. Scientists have shot them with x-rays and injected all sorts of carcinogens under their skin and they just shrug it off. So, biological defenses to radiation apparently exist. (And also in wate...

It's already been covered, but yeah, how do you not fake it and not end up living in a cardboard box in an alley? And, besides employers, you have to look at least somewhat normal to landlords, doctors (especially in the ER), the police, nosy neighbors bent on causing trouble, etc. I tried to maxima...

Having friends as a kid is very different than even adolescence, IMO. You can do parallel play, don't have to know all the right things to say (I hardly spoke at all and it wasn't much of a problem until a certain age), and there's less concern with social superiority/inferiority. It's much simpler....

Some wire mesh and screws to try to block the rats from getting into my mother's attic this winter.

And a bunch of $1.69 reading glasses. I lose them all the time and hate having to get a different kind because the kind I was used to isn't sold, anymore. So, I'm stockpiling them.

When someone says they have aspergers, many people now wonder if they were diagnosed and really have it or if they are just saying they have it without diagnosis. This is one of the reasons I am against self diagnosis and making claims of having autism without diagnosis. In this case, I don't know ...

I'd hate to be an ASD parent, if the mother is I've read of ASD people losing their kids to CPS for questionable reasons (and even Attwood isn't great on that subject) and this could make that worse.

Yeah. Some people get to hold you to standards that they don't have to live up to (and thus they have no idea). I'm starting to think that that's the primary purpose of gender -- to allow double standards. I'm physically large with a very male build, but my personality is at odds with the normal ste...
