Hi. My name is David Preyde, and I'm an equity studies major at the University of Toronto, focusing on disability studies. I have Asperger's Syndrome and NLD, and I'm working on a book project with my friend Anthony Easton. He also attends the U of T and is on the autism spectrum. The book we're wor...

I actually went to see Adam with a couple of other Aspies. We all thought it wasn't as bad as we expected and that the guy who played Adam did a pretty good job. I thought that the main character wasn't given enough dignity and was sometimes portrayed as overly childish (one of the Aspies in my grou...

David Bowie's "Sound and Vision".
Good song.

I have a lot of respect for 2001. I think- from a technical standpoint- it's one of the best films I've ever seen. This is due to the atmosphere, the way it slowly tightens its grip on the audience, and the ideas that are presented, even if they're ambiguous. It's definitely not on my top ten list o...

Transformer Man, by Neil Young: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eblFQppJfyg This song is from a parent's perspective, and while it can be interpreted as Aspie, it can really apply to any disability. Young has a severely disabled son who can't speak and is reliant on a motorized wheelchair to get arou...

It's a great idea, and really brilliant when it relies heavily when audible or semi-audible vocal clips. When it focuses more on ambient electronic music it seems to get repetitive. I think it'd work especially well for musicals- the Mary Poppins one was the best.

I'm ambivalent about marriage. I've witnessed a couple really strong, positive marriages, and a few abusive marriages. One of the happiest marriages I've ever seen was between a lesbian couple who weren't able to be legally married until they had been together for thirty years. So I don't think dott...

I'm sort of confused. Are you experiencing negative self-talk, or actual hallucinations? If it's hallucinations, you might want to talk to a doctor about that. Because it could be schizophrenia. If it's just negative self-talk, you might still want to talk to a doctor. It sounds like you're in the m...

I've never heard of people using service dogs for autists. It's an interesting idea, because a lot of people on the spectrum relate really well to animals. What would the dog be required to do for your daughter?

I have the exact opposite problem. Winter (November to March) is difficult for me due to lack of sunlight. This is because I have seasonal affective disorder. I don't know if seasonal affective disorder can affect people in the summertime instead of the winter. If it does, that may be what you're ex...

I've heard that Gene Roddenberry was a very warm and gregarious, empathetic person. Doesn't sound too Aspie to me. But you're right that there are a lot of Aspie characters on Star Trek. There's Spock, Data, Barclay, Odo, Tuvok, The Doctor, 7 of 9, T'Pol... The weird thing is, there wasn't one perso...

I love swearing. When I'm alone in the house, or with immediate family I swear all the time, sometimes just for the sake of it. I love the way the words sound, I love the creativity involved in stringing them together, and I love the cathartic effect it has on me. Sometimes when I'm alone I just mar...

I've always chewed my fingernails or the skin around the nails. When my ex-girlfriend expressed concern in high school, I stopped biting my nails. A few years later, I started again, then managed to stop a few months after that. But I quit biting them in the middle of a really stressful period in my...

Greensmith is a surname, and a lovely one at that (though it isn't mine). It has a nice ring to it, and reminds me of apples and such.
