I can relate. Maybe try teaching him life skills like how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or practice making change at a store, or run through the multiplication tables with him. Do the best you can, be patient, give him time, be consistent. When I look backwards, the real learning and g...

DW, thanks, I've really enjoyed participating and I've learned so much in such a short time. This has been super rewarding, and I intend to give back to the community more than I have taken, so I don't expect to be leaving anytime soon. I may go dormant from time to time, but I'm in this for the lon...

makuranososhi thanks for sharing. What you described is very consistent with the backpressure I get from my son. I feel like a broken record* when I say over and over again: "Yes I agree that the rules are stupid, and no you don't have to agree with the rules, but you do have to follow them anyway."...

Yes, I like many classical composers and my favorites are Chopin and Bach. Chopin for the mood and Bach for the mind. Especially during work.

You know what they say, if it ain't Baroque, don't fix it :D

I think the point that needs to be taught to children is that there are always consequences for everything you think, say, and do, and that some consequences are more severe than others, and it often takes maturity and experience to judge and predict the severity of the consequences. For the running...

Spazzergasm: good question. This is an advantage left-handed sword-wielders and gunslingers had over right-handers, that they could offer their right hand as a sign of peace but still have their strong hand ready to strike or shoot. The origin of the word "sinister" means both evil and of the left s...

Welcome to WP mamacass! I've can relate to what you're going through, been there and done it, and dealt with the shock with my now 14 yr old son. We first had him diagnosed at 10, but I wish we did it sooner. He's a great kid with lots of potential, he's my hero, and we have a very happy and fulfill...

I don't think the over-caring is just an act; it shows that you want to care :( I think this is what is important. Sometimes I have to act like I care when I really don't, especially around people I don't know that well or people I am forced to get along with, like at work, or on an airplane, or wh...

My ability to empathize was learned over many years, and didn't fully develop until well into my adult years, and not until after I had to deal with some serious losses. I think that really made it click for me, was suffering my own losses, and learning how to process my own emotions, that ultimatel...

Thanks everyone for the replies. Detren: He lost his planner first week of school. He lost five planners last year, no joke. schleppenheimer: yes, the school has a website with information for each class. The issue is that the teachers update their websites sporadically, and only after assignments h...
