Well my take on empathy is that it has nothing whatsoever to do with feeling part of a group. To me, that is something else entirely. Whereas 'sympathy' is understanding how another person feels, 'empathy' is actually EXPERIENCING another person's emotions oneself. I have empathy - I often feel ano...

I think you are right. The not seeing myself as part of a group plays into my problems with social interaction. I don't really picture myself from a third person perspective very often. In fact it's very uncomfortable for me to do so most of the time. I would rather not know how others perceive my p...

I haven't been able to figure out precisely what a meltdown is. I get confused everytime the subject comes up. From what I've read at WP, it seems to mean so many different things to different people. For some it can mean a fit of rage, for others it can mean an incapacitating sensory overload. I j...

On my left (nondominant) hand my fingers are pretty much the same length (80 mm). However on my right (dominant) hand my index finger is actually 4 mm longer than my ring finger. Does this mean I'm really NT? Or does it mean I'm just a girly man? :(

- I don't think or interpret things literally. - I actually prefer the abstract to the concrete. I’m good at higher level math (logic and proofs) but I’m really bad at doing calculations in my head. In this way I’m the opposite of what a lot of people think of when they think of autistic skills. I’m...

I have some really really vague memories from around the age of two. One of the memories is of being carried on my fathers back on the Atlantic shore in Rhode Island. All I remember is going past some sort of pier or concrete embankment which the waves were crashing against. I remember screaming bec...

This is more of an example of irony than paradox IMO.

Thanks. :)

It's not that I'm thinking self conscious thoughts. I just get generally anxious and start sweating and feel fatigued before I even do anything. I'm just generally anxious around people, even when I just go to the store. Oh well. I'll quit my whining for now.

Thanks Chuck. Don't even own a wheelbarrow. Unfortunately I live in the city. Really tiny apartment, not much room. I was thinking about buying a the adjustable dumbbells on this site. Then I need to get some kind of compact bench or ball. Right now I have a pullup bar in the hall but I have to go t...

Actually I do lift weights. Unfortunately I can't do squats or deadlifts though I really wish I could. I have Scheuermann's disease (a growth disorder in the spine that causes it to grow more curved than normal) and I don’t want to risk worsening it or developing herniated disks when I get older. I ...

I’m 6’1.5” and about 230 lbs. I don’t have a big gut though, just a little bit of spare tire. I think most of my weight is because I have thick muscular legs. I would probably look muscular if I lost 20-30 lbs of fat, but I always lose muscle when I lose weight which really sucks. When I was 170 lbs...
