What if your strength is with learning but you fail miserably in the social sense? It's not like individualized eduction plans can accommodate for that. I was also good with rote memory (ie. most tests) and bad wit learning in class.

HI all, I could really use some support. For a little background, I a autistic, blind and have psychiatric conditions. I function at quite a low level due to the combination of these disabilities, including severe overload issues, executive dysfunction, etc. I was institutionalized in 2007 in a psyc...

This is horrible, not so much the misdiagnosis, as the unwillingness by psychiatrists to listen ot hte patient and her mother. Antipsychotics, benzos and SSRIs can in fact be useful for Asperger's-associated symptoms, but side effects must be monitored carefully. TD is more common in autisitcs than ...

very much, yeah. my mindset is pretty childish and i'm terrified of growing up and having to do "adult" things like move out and get a job. i watched nick jr. and playhouse disney up until i was a late tween. partially because my younger sister liked it, and partially because i enjoyed it everyone ...

I'm hyper-vigilant . . . constantly aware of time passing. But at the same time, stuck in the present. I never seem to get into the bigger picture. Same for me unless I'm hyperfocusing on something else. I have dissociative identity disorder so when an alter takes over, I can't tell what they're do...

MBTI skeptic and owuld-be INTJ here. I do believe that extraversion as defined by Keirsey would include some shallowness, like preferring many acquaintances over one good friend. If said ESFJ scores high on extraversion, this might well lead them to become Aspie tooturers, in the sense that introver...

You would have to see autism as a continuum rather than a spectrum in order to have a low and a high end actually. I think of a spectrum as different colors that ar enot higher or lower in themselves, so different shade sof autism. I also do not believe in a continuum of autism, sinc epeople fu ncti...

I want to say, I know nothing about hte Connecticut shooting, but I do remember when Volkert van der Graaf (who murdered Duthc politician Pim Fortuyn in 2002) was suspected of having Asperger's. This was in the news for months, and indeed, it did affect people's perception of murderers. After all, w...

According to the polls, at this very moment, it seems that 11/26 (42.3%) of young adults with ASDs and 16/39(41%) of full adults(adults who are at least 25 years of age) who voted in this poll had a Good outcome or better. That seems to be offering some optimism in terms of outcomes for non-adults ...

I a not toally sure how to score my outcoe, as I have at one point achieved all three of the things you list, but failed miserably at two of them. So I'm considering myself having not achieved these for the sake of this poll, since I do not currently live independently or attend college/hold a job. ...

I didn't ever recieve hugs until I got into a relationship. I think in my culture it's not common for friends to casually hug each other, and oh, my parents would occasionallyy hug me after a fight. I'd say if where you live it's more common sense for people to give casual hugs, jsut ask one of your...
