I have wondered about the DSM's roll in this. I joined a few months after the DSM 5 manual was published and noticed the change viewpoint in 2014. While I felt somehow the two were linked I never could think of a reason that made more than slightly partial sense. This link I theorized for this thre...

I agree we can not force a culture, it has to happen organically. As far as telling NT's to "f**k off" we need to more of that in order to get basic rights and respect nevermind forming a culture. Agreed in that cultures have to form organically. I'm going to insert the word "do"...

Discussion of a country is very premature. The creation of cultural resources and Communities will contribute greatly to the answers you seek. It seems most autistics do not even want that Then they don't need to participate. If they change their minds, feel free to crack open a Stim Soda and join ...

What would the idea of non-neurotypicals(not just aspies) having their own country be called? Would this be counted as aspie separatism? What do you think of a country with only non-neurotypicals in it? How can it be achieved? How will it function? Is it a good idea? Throughout history neurotypical...

I separated out my quotes and your bolded text for ease of reading. All mistakes are mine I'm not sure if you implying or stating that individuals who are given the ASD diagnosis are "very nearly human" or "counterfeit", so I will reserve comment on that section of your self-desc...

Yes, I envision essentially an opt-in organization of passionate volunteers who can do outreach and lobbying. Years ago phone trees created a similar result of each person calling down the list to inform people of things of political or social interest. I think that public perception of neurodivers...

....... What I'm saying is that a certain amount of gravity needs to be recovered for the ASD, insofar as it is a clinical diagnosis for a D I S A B I L I T Y. Profound alienation. Impaired executive function that will mar your behavior and render you distinct in any crowd. Unable to perceive or co...

Joebiel,

When you refer to "posse", what exactly are you referring to? Are you thinking of an "in-group" of those who are not NT, or something along the lines of an outreach and lobbying organization?

A country or nation-state is not a good goal at this time, and it is counter-productive to discuss when there are no physical communities. The first groups to set up physical communities or sustained regularly scheduled gatherings will set the agenda for future communities and events. When there are...

Look people, why don't we actually just try it? Many criticisms of the idea of an autistic state are valid however they are not reasons in themselves to not at least give it a go. What do we have to lose? Aren't you tired of the constant misinterpretation and ostracisation? Why should we adapt to t...

I agree it is odd. Most parents want the son out of the house. Since you've paid for your own living this long, it doesn't make any sense as a reason.

There's their own boredom as an explanation, but that doesn't seem likely either.

Why not?

I've dealt with more than a few business owners who had Aspie-like behaviors.

In all likelihood, it's easier to be evaluated by the marketplace on our performance as a business owner than it is to get through the office and social politics of the average company.

One of our own WP posters, Vickygleitz, is putting together a community in Pueblo, CO, and she runs the annual AutHaven event in Colorado.

I also read your other post on this question, so I'm going to combine my responses. First of all, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to attend offline gatherings, many of which have trouble with generating and maintaining attendance. I think the first issue is that "The person who runs t...

I would recommend that there be some sort of "visiting" arrangement, even if it's just a local motel that offers a discount for visitors to the community. At least going by the results of a May 2013 survey (http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt231390.html), there appears to be at least some interest in s...
