i deleted windows 7 with ubuntu 10.04. I am impressed how fast of a boot of ubuntu 10.4 is. Windows 7 took about 90 secs to load everything to the desktop. Ubuntu only takes 42 seconds from powerup to the desktop

I agree, seaweasel. The boot time is amazing.

Oh, and to clarify an earlier comment about my wifi - I had to plug into the net using an ethernet connection to download, but it all went smoothly from there - a few clicks in the system administration menu and it works - not to mention it loads and connects to an existing network in less than 5 seconds after the desktop has finished loading.

I would do that if I could just use all my games with it.

Overall, I enjoy 10.04, and I will use it as a primary up to a point, but the lack of some games on linux kills me. I hate not being able to play ArmA 2 on linux.

i upgraded my work PC from Karmic and all went fine. No problems at all.

Just had to tweak the windows controls back to the right-hand side. details here

New Thunderbird took a while to index all my emails but all things considered I like the new version of TB especially tabs

Much prefer the darker theme compared to the old

If you have an RT2x00 wireless USB device, prepare to see it break like mine did :( if it didn't already break in 9.10 (now that was a horrible release).

I also hate the inconsistent notification/indicator applet thing, inconsistent because of the spacing and icon styles for programs like banshee, deluge, dropbox, glipper. The new (and sluggish) Ubuntu Software Store is missing icons after an upgrade, my favourite CHM viewer from the repository won't even install without some manual fidgeting about, installation seems to take longer then it did before and nautilus is still ugly as sin (even if it is awesome).

On the plus side, it's pretty easy to swap icon alignment back to the right (where it belongs until they make use of that empty space), it's a stable release, I love the nouveau drivers, Firefox is quickly closing the gap on it's window's version and it's still the snappiest easy to use distro of the lot.

It scores a B from me.

What I'm wondering is, how big is the download if you upgrading to Lucid Lynx from directly from Hardy Heron? I've tried to do it but before the package download started, I got a message saying I needed over five gigabytes of free memory. If that's how big the download is, it's a bit of a problem for me.

I upgraded from Karmic, and so far it's good. No problems - but if you want to do some tweaking and are a little inexperienced around the kernel and terminal - or are just a little lazy, like myself - download and install Ubuntu-Tweak. It'll let you get rid of the ugly purple background when you log in.
Ubuntu's great, but their color choices haven't always been smart, apparently.

A plus for me was that a game I used to play that seemingly "broke" all of a sudden worked again under Lucid - Nexuiz. Odd considering I had already updated my graphics drivers and hadn't the slightest idea how to fix the problem.
