Caprica was nowhere near as good as Battlestar Gallactica

Sure, but they are two very different shows and can be enjoyed each on their own.

Isn't a Conscious just, in a way, our memories?
For example, indentical twins.
The only difference between them would be enviroment damage to them, and their Conscious.
Because there is no single Conscious controling them, the Conscious must be built after birth via memories. Because your genes do not control the Conscious.

So I think a copy would be the same as cloning, same body/personality different person. Besides, i was talking about uploading your Conscious not copying it.

Yeah, Gallactica was really about survival ethics when it was at its best. Caprica was very intriguing but never had the chance to hit its stride...

PS

I'd think Gallactica would have few too many "angels" in it for you, ruveyn....

The Ghost In The Shell franchise is set in a future world where cybernetic modification is common. From that basis, it wanders around and explores the psychosociological phenomena that might arise, including the possibility of uploading one's consciousness to a sufficiently large computer network, and vice versa. These raise serious questions about where the dividing line between the soul and the body is, and to what extent the two are separable. Hence the title, ghost (soul) in the shell (body).

Very cool stuff. Check it out if you're interested int he subject.

The entire internet is extremely intelligent.

Actually, it is the human users and programmers who are intelligent.

Actually , I think he is right. Individual computers and people are intelligent but the internet acts like a giant brain which is super intelligent. All parts are connected to all other parts (more or less). If one of us put out a falsehood (i.e. someone lies) then others get the opportunity to see it and 'repair' it. If you see individual people as parts of this whole, then this super-intelligence, representing humans, is self-improving, self- repairing, self monitoring.
It is the intelligent brain of the super-organism that is all life on Earth.

You over rate the Net. The Internet has not proved a single important theorem. But people have.

There is a difference between a force multiplier (or amplifier) and a force.

Well, that's true. It also won't invent something or create art, so that kid of intelligence not there. In terms of memory and access to that memory, it is phenomenal though. And yes, it can propagate damaging or incorrect information, and viruses also.

I sill can't help wondering if it's possible that it could eventually 'evolve' into something more. If we don't really yet understand exactly HOW brains work, then we can't really rule out that the pivotal mechanism won't eventually appear in the internet. Or maybe a carefully programmed device which would no doubt be attached to the internet anyway.

CRAP! Now I'm scared I've really upset you!!

If it makes you feel any better, my fleshy body is no work of art either.
But I do admit I love it anyway. When I was, um, your age, I was plagued with er, insecurities, so now I guess I've just scared myself even more. :(

sorry? :shaking:
