I'm interested how it turns out, it's my first time trying Gentoo.

So yeah, seems to be not for me;
- Rolling release
- Feels awkward to use, esp. Portage
- Manual installation is tedious
Tho it's fast and Portage doesn't break, unlike FreeBSD ports

I'm trying out the Matrix (instant messaging platform) client app Fluffychat. For being Open Source, wow is it nice looking. All the modern conveniences are there: emojis, reactions, editing posts, etc. So far no bugs. I expect over the next few weeks, subtle bugs may emerge. But for now, I'm having a good first impression.

I've tried it now on 3 platforms: Linux, iPadOS, and Android. It's rare to get something as nice as this - remember, it's open source - in the Apple ecosystem.

I've got new reading glasses, and there's a noticeable difference, comparing using this forum in a browser tab (Fennec for Android), and Fluffychat. Since Fluffychat is using native "Material You" widgets, the text moves around smoother on this 6-year old phone. Just that smoothness itself, the reduced eye strain - that alone is a great feature. I've got the eyesight of a middle-aged man now.

I had a similar experience where my kids finally convinced me to invest some time into going to the local optometrist and buy a new pair. It was a true "why did I wait this long"- moment :)

That deserves a new thread right there: what is your Autistic "why did I wait that long" epiphany?

"Statcounter, a company that tracks website traffic and operating system use, shows a clear picture. In April 2024, Linux had a small 2.84% slice of the desktop market in Europe. Fast forward to July 2025, and that share has jumped to an impressive 5.21%. That’s a massive 83.45% increase in just over a year. For many years, Linux numbers barely budged, staying below 3% even with small bumps during the pandemic. This recent jump is truly unique."
