I did upgrade one computer to Windows 10. I know it's the future, that it's going to be the permanent version of Windows, that 7 will only be supported for five more years...

What I don't like is the weird first screen, with a photo I didn't take and can't change, with my full personal name and my e-mail address plastered across the screen.

I also don't like the now VERY limited choices you have in setting up how things are displayed. Themes, colors, fonts and font sizes... So many personal choices GONE.

I truly hope there's a wild uproar on the part of users about this, and one of the earliest sets of updates will restore the options earlier forms of Windows allowed us. AND get rid of that stupid opening screen while they're at it... At least let US choose/provide the picture and what text info is displayed.

Those are parts of the 'idiot proofing' of windows.
It won't be long before "hackers" provide fixes and alternatives akin to jailbreaking/rooting of smartphones.

So far the only part of Windows 10 I like is how it runs faster than 7. Other than that I have come across plenty of bugs and lost functionality. Hopefully microsoft will listen to its users and issue a patch soon.

Unfortunately not all drivers are supported yet. So I am going to wait for a few months. Hopefully a few service packs are released then and W10 has fewer bugs to worry about.

I have been thinking about going to Windows 10, but now I think I will wait until they either clean out the bugs or come up with something better. Thanks for the heads up, I am not very computer savvy and this could have been a nightmare for me.

Actually you can change the settings of that first screen....but I will have to play around on my computer to figure out how again, then I can try and explain it. As for themes, colors, fonts and font sizes I have yet to really explore the options and see what all you can and cannot do. One idea though is consumer feedback....like if enough people complained of there not being enough personalization options maybe one of their updates will include more of that.

IDK aside from less personalization(unless its just different and harder to find the font changing options) it seems fine, I heard rumours you cannot rip CDs to your computer like to save in MP3 format, but I just tried earlier and I can still listen to and rip CDs just fine. Maybe those people meant DVDs but I don't think you could rip DVDs on windows 7 either, unless of course you had some kind of other software not through Microsoft specifically to do that.

I might keep windows 10, might revert back to 7.....not quite sure yet.

In many ways I have liked Windows 10, however I was concerned by this article which seems to suggest that Microsoft have pre-baked logging software into it... Wonder who else they are sending activity reports?

I would be moving to Ubuntu full time if it wasn't for Adobe Creative Cloud's lack of linux support.

What bugs? Just curious since I haven't really noticed any myself....then again my computer itself can be kinda screwy so it could be I just assume its my machine when there's a weird glitch.

Seems like its a parental security feature, so parents can see what their kids do online...it sends a report to the kids parents. Unless you're a minor planning to do things you're not supposed to on the computer with parents computer savy enough to use and understand the security feature...I don't quite understand your concern about this particular feature.

The fact that the capability to log that information is built into the operating system and could easily be hacked to monitor anyone, or could easily be misused by governments acting outside their mandates/authority.

I fail to see how this is a new risk though....these kinds of child security features are nothing new, windows 8 and 7 also have the capability. And even without that running hackers and government could still monitor your activities if they want to and hack into your system child security feature or not. Not to mention windows 8, 7 and pretty sure apple operating systems all have the capability to log and report information...this didn't start with windows 10.

Also though you can simply disable that feature if it's enabled...wouldn't make sense for an adult to have that feature enabled on their personal computer their child is not using anyways. Personally I'd be more concerned with leaving my web-cam uncovered than the existence of this child security feature.

I did not see any specific bugs mentioned, it was mentioned there are less personalization features, such as not being able to change display font on windows menus/start menu. As well as the child security feature.....I thought bugs where like problems with the system that cause problems or make it run weird not simply the things people dislike. So either I am missing something or I've somehow got the wrong definition of bug when related to technology in my head.

Just download Google Chrome. That way you can watch Netflix and other videos that require Flash.

I'm sure they'll be adding more stuff. I've contributed ideas to windows feedback, you can put what you'd like on there and upvote the ones you'd want. It's not a finished OS yet and so yeah, there's a few things missing compared to 7. There's still chance for those things to come back though. But yeah, I don't think you can turn off that screen, but personally I like it so I've never tried.

Not to sound paranoid, but it really sounds like Microsoft is veering towards a cloud of sorts. They send all your data to a cloud, which is a security nightmare.

Linux distributions come with a 256-bit AES full disk encryption setup and is much more secure than Windows and Mac, and BSD is not even worth the time to merely try and hack it.
