A quick update on my quest in buying a new computer. Last weekend I finally was able to go to a Mac Store to check some Macs out. I was able to play with a number of them plus one of the workers gave me a quick overview about Macs in general and certain features... I was pretty pleased with it. After going to the Mac store I went to a Barnes and Noble and bought a book about switching to the Mac. I think I might buy a Mac to replace my old Dell computer in the next few weeks or so. I think I will probably buy the Imac.

Just one question for the Mac users here who have been so helpful to me. Does you shut down your Mac or do you put it on Sleep mode? I hear mixed views on this. Is putting a Mac on sleep mode better than actually shutting it down completely?

Thanks for your assistance.

Everyone just puts it to sleep. There are plenty of Mac users whose computers see as much as a year or two of uptime- no shutting down, no reboots. The only time you need to reboot is to apply updates, and that doesn't happen too often.

Your mom jokes. How interesting!

You might as well get a Mac if you're reading a book about switching to one! Seems like someone is trying desperately to dodge the defective computer bullet that strikes down many...

Thanks for the tips about Macs and Sleep.

Just another question about a related issue, when I put my Mac (I don't have one yet but most likely will buy one soon) to sleep is it safe for me to keep my DSL modem on? Usually with my regular PC I shut down my computer and turn off the DSL modem.

I don't see why not.

When I was at the Mac Store a few weekends ago checking out the Macs I noticed one thing about the Safari browser (actually many things but this one stuck out) there's no pull down feature on the address bar. I could not figure out how to create this. The regular IE has a pull down feature on the address bar but I noticed Safari does not.

By the way, does the Mac users here use Safari or prefer Mozilla Firefox?

Thanks again for all of the assistance.

still undecided I guess?

yes you are right, there's no dropdown menu, instead, there's a Top Sites feature, like this one:

link
it also let's you know which sites have been updated, showing a blue star, like this:

link

which browser does one prefer? that will vary, a lot  one month I use Firefox, the next month I use Chrome, or Safari (:

Those are really nice screen shots. Really shows off the beauty of OSX.

I bought a mac after pulling my hair out for years with PC's I love the mac and i have in the past also played with various linux distros. The mac is jut so simple and really suits the way i think. Its form of logic appeals to me. As does the naf alloy casing.

Aren't those features available on Safari for Windows too? Besides, Apple just borrowed the idea from Opera and added cover flow to it, nothing special.

@Redrocket
You don't have to use Safari even though it's the default browser. Apple is quite as lame as M$ in fixing vulnerabilities, I recommend you use Firefox or Opera even on OSX.
