Well i am using ubuntu 10.10 and I have to say this version is excellent, i think canonical have made too bloated with 11.10.

I will see when they release 12.04 and I will decide if I go with it or another version.

You do know you're not obliged to install everything provided, I hope?

And bloated? Really? I have 11.04 installed with more manually included optional goodies that I can shake a stick at, yet the whole installation is only ~6GB on disk.
How does that compare to Windows 7 - or even Windows XP, with their installation consisting of nothing except the OS?

Yeah i decided to go back windows as I do not have any issue with playing world of warcraft, I think linux has great potential once it gains market share and developers start to make native clients. When i ran wow in wine, I had major problems with fps and it froze quite a few times.

I think windows is the winner for gaming.

I did like linux mint debian and it was quite lightweight, problem was with the sound, Freebsd once configured using linux emulator it was good, Arch Linux worked ok with kde but getting gnome to work different matter, Ubuntu I think is closer to people who want something out of the box without too much effort.

Too many distributions out there, people want one operating system that people can fall in love with which is free and easy to setup.

I would love blizzard to make a linux native client as I would jump to linux within a heartbeat, one thing I do like is that there is a community that develops software for the community and everyone can contribute to the development.

I like arch linux as I can start from a base install and add what I like, no bloatware. Freebsd the same, but you got to install linux compatibility for flash etc. Most of all it is free and that is great.

Assuming you mean WOW, it works beautifully under Wine!
Actually, Wine is going very very very well. You can almost play anything (Well I can with some additional DLLs!)

What are your system specs? If they are too low, then it wont run well under wine.
Also, dont forget, Linux is a totally different environment to Windows. So if your switching, make sure its for you.

^^ Almost the same as my main desktop machine - it uses the same motherboard, CPU and video card.
I have 4G RAM and 4 disks of various sizes.

Yeah would love to migrate fully to linux, dont get me wrong, I enjoy a community driven operating system than one on pure greed.

Windows seems to do ok for me when it comes to gaming, I seem to fail at every point as if someone wants me to keep to windows.

Well, what else do you do apart from gaming?
Also, nice system.

So long as you get a distro that supports Flash Player (and I'm pretty sure Ubuntu does) and don't mind switching to OpenOffice or LibreOffice, you should be fine with all of that.
