Looking at a computer screen does not do any lasting damage to your eyes. Staring at a monitor for prolonged periods of time can cause your eyes to grow fatigued, but it won't cause any permanent harm. (This is what I have been told by opthamologists, at least)

I hear it fatigues your eyes, but doesn't hurt them as much as people think they do. According to what I hear and read its perfectly find to sit right in front of the TV as well. It has no damaging effects on your eyes. I have used computer for about 15 years and my eyesight did dip down some, but I believe its more genetic than anything else as my Mother, brother, and sister all require glasses. My eyesight has actually gotten a little better over the past year. My current prescription glasses give me headache to wear them for extended periods. When I don't wear them I feel fine and still can see pretty well. Just can't read the signs in the distance or tell you if that is someone I know over there.

Way back when I had a monitor that had a maximum res of 1024x768, now I can't go under 1920x1080. As for the idea of a projector, if you can deal with that resolution, more power to you, same with if you can deal with monotone. I personally however would want full capabilities of color spectrum and a decent resolution, rather than low resolution and monotone. It all depends on your useage, if all your doing is surfing the net and typing in word, maybe, but for gaming forget it.

Yes this is correct. It is actually possibly good that they get a work out. Damage from eye strain just a myth related to the older wife’s tale about reading in poor light.

A problem a monitor causes is dry eyes, as people tend to blink less. I never wear my contact whilst viewing a screen as they a very uncomfortable after minutes.

Another problem is sleep patterns. Scientists have found that the brain responds to light with regards to waking up, and your body’s sleep clock. It is not the usual rods and cones that it uses bit other sensors. This light is detected even when your eyelids are closed and you are asleep. Staring at a computer screen can trick your brain into thinking it is still daytime.

Don't sweat it.

There are exercises you can do that will improve your eyesight.

I pretty much agree with toto.

That is why I used my Sony PRS-505 for reading as much as possible as opposed to an LCD screen. This is the whole point of the e-ink readers. Non-backlit being the point. The e-ink technology is moving along at a decent pace and there is even talk of color down the track.

E-ink is the same experience as reading a printed page. Reading itself is of course still unnatural and not the best for the eyes but doing so on something that is not backlit is the best scenario.

I think you'd be best to hold off on any major investments in a projector and just wait a little. The Pixel Qi screens sound awesome and a re getting close to production. Being able to flick between a backlit screen and a non-backlit e-ink type experience will be perfect.
