Having hardware that doesn't have drivers that are free can be a problem. First time users will see some graphical things and compare it to Windows as the drivers are not installed for Linux. From that point they will say that Windows is superior and better. (Without knowing what drivers are and do) It can be annoying to have to download drivers from other sources

But seriously, the use of two unrelated operating systems is a great way to diagnose hardware problems.
