One report I read says that Gilese 581g most likely has a rather thick atmosphere with a lot of greenhouse gases... like Venus only with a cooler sun. If it weren't for the thicker atmosphere, then yes, it probably would be baked on one side and frozen on the other. However, I think convection currents from the greenhouse gases help regulate the heat and spread it over the planet - not evenly, there would still be a significant temperature difference between the light and dark zones - but enough to where the dark zone doesn't get cold enough to freeze atmospheric gases.
