I find that one of the most effective things to help with this is to teach yourself to observe and be non-judemental. It is REALLY difficult, but it is one of the most effective things to do for mindfulness. I am struggling with it myself.
I can get behind that!
I have a huge problem with the version of "non-judgemental" that professional counsellors use here, which is like their brains fell out during training. It is like the kind of multicultural ideology that refuses to recognise (or celebrate) any culture or difference, and only accepts the lowest common denominator.
Judgement and recognition are so important to me that I get no benefit at all from "patient listening" or a friendly shoulder to cry on. I want people to recognise and identify what I am talking about, and to judge (and assist me in judging) how to deal with it. A lot of my difficulties stem from being both judgemental and a poor judge, so judgement is exactly what I need.
That applies just as much to mindful awareness of both the presence of a stimulus and to the interpretations of it.
