And completely useless for doing anything that isn't "opening an internet browser".
Just get some insurance and back your data up, anything that's portable and worth at least £100 is attractive to thieves anyway, can't live life being paranoid.
What a bunch of nonsense. My netbook runs MS office and does pretty much anything I want it to this side of heavy video editing.
@ the OP,
If you prefer PCs, (congratulations on being smart

or just intimidate the sh** out of thieves like I have a tendency to do. Ive had one admit to casing me but decided otherwise because of my behaviors XD
That and the fact that if they held out a knife or gun I still wouldn't give a sh** (plus I tend to walk out in highly visible areas, so if you do pull sh** you are f**** regardless.
How do you intimidate thieves?
I walk in highly visible areas too.
He explained it as "Risk outweighs benefits, you look like you can seriously wreck someone something fierce." Can be believable since I am a really big guy. (not fat, I am tall with a broad muscular build, big arms, broad shoulders and such. (No six-pack, not too much definition. I Just have a lot of muscle mass and basic physics of mass would apply if I decided to hit something or someone. I used to punch steel building support girders at work and make them vibrate quite a bit too

Well, ive taken care of al my PCs quite well. I just upgrade the hardware now and then. I have never had issues with windows since I actually perform proper maintenance and refuse to clutter my PC with junk like most people tend to. Also steering clear of questionable software helps out alot. The only times ive ever reinstalled windows on this was after major hardware upgrades (Even with a mac, if you do upgrade heavily, you should still re-install to prevent hardware to software communication issues.) What i would count = changing you main hard-drive, or Installing a new mobo/CPU combo. Adding more memory or changing video cards really wouldn't do anything unless you screw up a driver switchover and installation.

Location: in my own little tamarillo jungle,
your mac might very well be reliable but it is a couple of years older than its c brethren of the time in regards to hardware,
even in the latest generations the only point where they are up to par with what one can build yourself is the cpu.
and one actually pays more for that disservice, no thank you, make your os generally compatible and let people tinker themselves and then i would on the day build me a mac desktop.

A PC will look better on paper, sure, but specs don't really matter. I've used a brand new high spec PC which was as slow as f**k because it comes with so much damn bloatware, for example. Plus, all the drivers and different apps are made by different people.
With a Mac, the software is built specifically to work on the hardware, so in the actual real world, rather than the world of benchmarks and "what has the biggest numbers on its spec sheet?", Macs come out on top.
Besides, in the long term, a Mac is cheaper because it's more reliable, and the build quality is excellent.
Plus, as I said, if you're using it for creative stuff, as the OP is, a Mac is certainly more ideal than some crappy netbook. That's what Macs are known for, after all. The big animation studios and graphic design companies use Macs for a reason.

Aww, that's sweet of you to say, but don't cry for me. The back light went out on it at 6 months. Then two years later the vidcard crapped out and the replacement crapped out a month after that. I got 2.5 years service out of it and a free computer.
Those extended warranties are totally worth it.

Hey that's great!
Five years... I guess apple is a bit stagnant when it comes to meaningful hardware innovation, huh?
You must have, what, a 8GB hard drive?

And I don't need to pay out my ass for an extended warranty because my computer just works properly

500GB hard drive, 4GB RAM. Not had any problems with that either.

Well I use a self-built desktop, thus I don't have all that junky bloatware on it. As for specs, It really does matter on what you are using it for. I built mine specifically for gaming, Macs don't have the freedom of tweaking with hardware as much, yeah you have the windows emulation/dual boot capability, but emulation isn't really that good when it comes to gaming. It basically all comes down to which OS is best for my uses.

Any Mac made since 2006 has an Intel processor, and thus is able to run Windows natively without the need for any emulation whatsoever - so Windows will run at full speed just like on a PC, but you know, more reliably, because it's better hardware

You can spec a Mac out however you want. When you order one from Apple, you can choose to upgrade the HD, RAM, and so on. If you get a Mac Pro, you get full customisation just like a homemade PC - you can open that baby up and fit any part you want into it.
I don't have enough buck for a MacBook Pro atm, so I'm going to settle for an HP or Toshiba for now. Thanks for your imput, everyone!
Your computer will spend more time in a repair shop than in use by you, but hey, at least you're not getting a Dell, those are really bad

Wow, those apple stores must be... different. I paid out of my wallet. Where I'm from, your method would result in charges.
