Short answer : NO

Long answer : Laptops (such as my aspire) have got 2 Ram Ports. Your netbook HAS ONE. You can only put 2GB Ram into the machine. That is not enough to run x64

This post is quite old, but I'm just wondering. I thought 2gb of RAM is already enough to run 64-bit OS, because I'm also planning to upgrade my win7 to x64.

My source is

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Yes 2GB is required, but not recommended. Requirements are bare minimums to get the thing to be even usable. Try to see what it says is recommended. Always go with recommended, not required.

I just bought an acer aspire one d257 loaded with windows 7 stater what a joke it was. So i wiped it and installed windows xp. This thing lags beyond a joke!! ! (Xp itself runs fine) but when browsing certain web pages! I thought this thing is supposed to be a "NET" book! But it cant even handle the net!! ! it plays 720p youtube smoothly?! But lags when i play certain flash games? And when browsing the facebook website. is nearly unusable! So i though i load a few classic games from around 2002 2003, Games i tried GTA vice city, Max payne, call of duty and a few others, All worked great! But why does this piece of crap lag when just on google!

Use a browser like chrome or Firefox, not ie. Open a flash player, right click it and go to options then uncheck hardware support (hardware acceleration). Its a check box...

Might fix your issue. I have an older lenovo s10-3t and flash tends to be unstable with hardware support on. 2gb ram upgrade would be cheap, and helpful... but probably wouldn't fix your flash issue. Make sure hardware support in flash is off by closing the browser, reopening and checking the settings. Facebook might run slow due to flash ad's.

What Nim says is true. Hardware acceleration on Firefox itself slowed my MacBook right down too.

I have a netbook with a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom and 2GB RAM. It consistently performs terribly regardless of software platform, including Windows XP, 7, 8 and Ubuntu 11, in comparison to my iPhone 4S. In fact since I purchased the iPhone 4S I haven't used the netbook anymore. The only advantage the netbook has is a keyboard, a bigger screen and flash capability.

Netbooks are definitely on their way out, especially as the tech that runs them hasn't really advanced much over the last several years, whereas tablets and hybrid devices such as the ASUS Transformer series see regular, significant improvements.

With only 2 GiB you'd be better off running the 32 bit variant of Windows.
Applications use significantly more RAM in a 64 bit environment.

The Atom was never really known for it's performance, though..

Given the OP says youtube videos are OK, I suspect the problem is the anti virus. What AV software the OP is using?
