I would never delete a recovery partition on a preinstalled windows machine, even now I am using linux mint on my custom built machine.

I got world of warcraft running on linux, it is not perfect, but it works. I think software should run on its own native client, I have tried some native linux games, not bad at all.

Why prefer it over alternatives like linux or osx?

Because Linux is for people who like thinking too hard and OS X is for people who don't like thinking at all.

ahahaha  :D

My Macbook Pro broke after a year (it was a hardware thing, but for 2k you expect a bit better quality?), my linux box broke a week ago (to be fair, it was 6 years old, and the CD player burnt out, thus burning out the PSU - so it wasn't Tux's fault, it was Lite-on corp or whoever makes the CD drive)

yet after a decade-ish the IBM thinkpad and the Dell Dimension still work (both XP), not perfectly, but better than the apple mac anyway.

I like Windows cos it just works, doesnt crash and allows me to be creative (im coding my website at the mo) :D

I use Windows because it comes with the computer and it has the most applications ready to use.

I am too old and impatient to use command line interfaces.

I used to have a dual partition with Windows XP on one half of the HD and a Linux build on another. The main reason for Linux was for my graduate school work which involved using Matlab, shell-scripts / command-line applications, and other software specific for viewing weather data. That drive went kaput a couple years ago and now I just have a laptop with Windows 7. I don't mind using Linux at work where there are people to help me if something gets f****d up. I don't think I could stand using it as a home OS though. I've used Macs too but I just can't seem to get used to them.

it is great that many of you have replied to this post, thank you.

As an aspie myself I get into a tiss on which OS to use, hence keeping changing my main OS over and over. I have windows xp and linux mint 12 dual boot on this machine and I am going to work on Freebsd on the other computer.

I find wow runs a lot smoother on windows naturally than linux, I am going to try wow on freebsd with linux compatibility.

I currently prefer windows 7, however it's a love hate relationship. I also have XP dual boot on the same machine and I often marvel at how much simpler it is to solve problems with XP. XP is a nice stable environment on the most part. Well back to 7, I like it, but my sound hardware doesn't. Realtek audio is a bit glitchy in 7. But no matter. I'll use any OS that's a pleasure to use and well supported.

I use Free McBoot on my playstation 2. :o :)

It's just what I have known all my life. And I have never asked myself about advantages of alternatives, simply because I do not know.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Windows because it has always been enough for me. With OSX I get that it has a nicer look, but apart from that... Depends on what you want to do, I guess. I mostly use the internet, so I am not too bothered about the Windows or not Windows question.
