Linux question
Mandrake 9.2 should work on the computer. The computer does meet the minim requirements for it. But I do not want to fork out money for this old computer. Ubuntu is free BUT you have to fill out long registration forms which I do not think it is worth filling out AND it can take up to 6 months to receive these cds. From what I have read so far it only takes on average 8 weeks to get cd.
It sounds like too much hassel when the cd's I have should work. The CD's I have are Mandrake 9.0, 9.2 and 10.0 and some old Red Hat versions not sure how old the red hat ones are I think they are about as old as my Mandrake 9.0 cd.

My computer is a Pentium III 450 mhz, with 128 MB of Ram, 8 MB graphics card and I got a spare 13 GB hard drive which to install the operating system on.
What are the main steps I should through to install the system and make it work.
First: BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM! I'm assuming you're running Windows and will dual boot your machine. Back it up for the worst case scenario, which would be that your primary hard drive is completely and utterly wiped without chance for recovery. Don't just think about it, do it.
Once you do it, play. Install the spare drive and try to install Slack on it. Some have given advice regarding installing Slack, others have suggested against it. My sense would be that you selected Slackware for some reason unknown to me. Play with it. As long as your computer is backed up (really backed up), you've nothing to lose.
Good luck and have fun!! !!

The only thing is the newer versions have more features and are easy to use. But the older ones should probably be better for older hardware...
