Well, Realplayer is infamous for being a Trojan infested virus carpetbag, so I would kill realplayer and if you have some patience, go Wikipeda: Spybot Search and Destroy, and download that and let it run, but you might have to wait. Also recommending VLC, and Windows Media Player does AVI files if I remember correctly. Winamp is also a choice, but I really would call it GlitchBugAmp (Or CrashAmp). This is only my advice, so do what you will.

Thanks for the wiki link.

It was a video. I put it on youtube, since you will not click the link via PM.

*edit*

you gave me the code to display it in the PM, so I did such.

I am not one of the people harassing you.

I don't know you personally, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. You could be associated with them without knowing me personally, it's just too easy.

I'm sorry. Until you speak in English (with no noticeable foreign accent) I can't accept this as definite evidence that you're not one of them.

And I still wonder what was in that file, since my computer has played .avi files before without a problem.

And I'm not paranoid. They really are harassing me online and are out to get me.

Let me get my microphone plugged in. I'll make you another video.

It was a video. Nothing more. For some reason your computer couldn't read it by your description of the black screen. Not all .avi files are the same, and it was probably the software my webcam uses that made it unreadable to you.

They might be out to get you, but I'm not.

Maybe the file is really a virus and has a .avi.com or .avi.exe extension, which in fact means it's a executable file and not a video

Sometimes antivirus programs delete the file as soon as it is downloaded, to avoid getting infected.

BTW, don't use two antivirus at the time

If that were to happen, wouldn't the antivirus program let you know that it detected a virus while deleting it?

Real Player played, but with nothing (seemingly) in it, for 30 or 31 seconds.

This is undoubtably going to sound stupid, but why not? :?

Thanks, btw.

"Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown."

You could use two if one doesn't have real-time protection or you shut one of the antivirus' real-time protection off and just used it as on-demand(Manually run it, no automatic protection). Though I wouldn't recommend it.

what mikebw said.

Oh, I didn't read that you found the file. Try opening the file using Gspot (freeware) to know what codec it uses.

And what's all about with this harrasing thing?

If I find it, I'll do that. I had a problem with codecs on a downloaded movie before, so I have Gspot.

Long story short, there are a few passive-aggressive bullies who found out that I'm posting on this site posting here since november who are creating plenty of sockpuppets. One even since september.

The one who started it all does not have AS, and definitely does not think she does, but posts here claiming to be aspergian just the same.

Anyhoo, I'm pretty certain scumsuckingdoughbag is one of them, and I foolishly clicked on a link he uploaded (proof of his identity). It did download into my computer, into my internet temporary files (it said) but I couldn't find it there or anywhere else in my computer.

I'm really suspicious because I don't know what this file is and can't find it, and the antivirus didn't pick up anything.

You'd be incorrect to think that. I don't even know you, except for a small percentage of your posts that I've read and the PMs we have exchanged. The first PMs you sent me in November had initially confused me. I suppose I could have ignored them, but my curiousity got the best of me.

If you wish, ask Alex or some other person here with access to IP addresses to verify my location for you.

Internet temporary files are often deleted without the user doing anything. The first file I sent you plays on my computer, it is a .avi file, but it will not upload to youtube. That first file sent to you was unchanged from what was saved in the webcam's folder.

If anyone here wants to examine the file, the link is here:

http://www.mediasharez.com/download.php?id=8C674C534

Password = "snake"

I'm going to delete it in a few days.

I'm sorry, but you'd better host that file on a service like Rapidshare or Filefactory, which doesn't have restrictions about proxies. For people like me, who are behind a NAT and don't have patience for laggy high-security anonymous proxies, the download stucks.

Moving it to a different location would defeat the purpose of having others who are knowledgable about it examine it.

SilverProteus thinks I'm one of her bullies, and ever since I posted a video after she told me to post a video of myself as proof that I'm not one of them(the video didn't work when she downloaded it), she thinks the file had something on it that shouldn't have been there. I simply wanted someone to verify that the file from the same location ashe downloaded from had nothing inappropriate on it.

Here's the exact same file hosted on rapidshare:

http://rapidshare.com/files/111375646/To_Silver_Proteus.avi.html

That being said, I hope she finds a way to get them to leave her alone.

Well, I've downloaded the file and I've just seen a guy with a snake on his neck, putting a paper in front of the cam, in which it was written:

"To: Silver Proteus
This is scum
I am not one of them"

Its duration is exactly 31 seconds.

For me, the video really doesn't have anything wrong with it, beyond being weird. What may have happened is that when SilverProteus downloaded the file, she may have clicked "Open" instead of "Save". Then the file was downloaded, open by Real Player, and automatically deleted after closing Real Player, as it was a temporary file.

About Real Player just showing a black screen, I am not sure if Real Player can play .avi files correctly. Maybe it was just a codec problem. Better open .avi files with the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Hope that helps.

That's what the file was supposed to display to her.

That was my current best friend on my neck.
