When I get a new computer/laptop, I will see about Vista, and if I like it, it stays, if I don't I will wave my magic keyboard and invite Ubuntu inside my hard-disk. That or ReactOS beta.
My computer, a Dell Optiplex G1 cannot and won't have the capability of running Windows Vista.
Here is why:
400Mhz does not bounce off the minimal requirements.
256 Megabytes does not make Vista come.
18 Gigabytes total hardrive space will not make Vista a home.
DVD drive, I have not.
My onboard and my other Video Card would fry with Vista.
Those are my reasons.

I'm using it right now. It works well on computers designed for it.

As for the MSW vs. Mac thing, I compare it to shoes: Macs are like velcro shoes and MSW are shoes with shoelaces. Yes, they can get untied, or you can tie a knot, or a mean person can tie your shoelaces together, but better to know how to tie your shoelaces than have to walk around in velcro shoes.

    Two things:
  1. I discovered velcro shoes about two decades ago, and have not worn laced footwear since.
  2. I can think of no reason to use an OS I can't rewrite.
Currently Ubuntu, was Debian, Mandrake, SuSE, etc.

Ubuntu, et al, are Crocs.

Comfy, funky and fun, but kind of embarrassing to wear in public.

Never, well I already have it on my laptop but its pointless, and XP with SP3 is a big screw up, don't install it.

So far I've been able to get away with using Windows 2000 (under Parallels) on my Macs. Since I only need W2000 for running compilers and IDEs I suspect it will be adequate for quite a while.

None of the votes apply to me. I use Vista and tolerate it. I read somewhere that MS might abandon Vista and jump to another version of Windows.

Two possibilities:
1) Microsoft releases windows 7 and it is actually good.
2) Microsoft dies.

Either way I don't need Vista, I am sure XP can easily last at least 3 more years without getting any obsolete, I don't mind a lot though since I haven't booted into windows for about a year...

I'm learning to hate Vista more and more each day I use it.

Everything seems to take more mouse clicks to achieve than it did with XP.

Take for example the new media player. I've got lots of MP3's on an external drive. I simply wanted to navigate to a specific folder and open a bunch of mp3 tracks that were there. Nothing complicated. With Vista I'm getting loads of crap about creating playlists and libraries etc. I just want to play these tracks FOR F***S SAKE.

Yesterday I ran the Windows backup to backup stuff to my external drive. All seems to have worked fine. But just looked on the drive and the backup doesn't exist!! ! God I hate Vista.

My UBUNTU disk has arrived so I've installed that on the Vista laptop now - It will be very interesting to see if surfing the web is faster than Vista. After a while Vista gets slower and slower and finally web pages start timing out. I've had to resort to using my XP laptop on several occasions. I'll say it once more I HATE VISTA

(I just tried to edit this post to fix a typo and the page timed out - so I've had to switch to the XP computer to do it Grrrr  )

the internet slows on vista till it grinds to a hault? sounds like the memory allocation problems that have haunted windows systems forever is reaching new heights of crappyness.

i'm running xp and hardy hebron (ubuntu 8.04). it's looking like i may just end up switching over to ubuntu full time soon enough. no such problems with moving memory as with xp so i don't see as many slowdowns/freezes as i do with xp. i can play flash videos online. i can play most games with wine.

really, there isn't much reason other than a few things that windows can still do that ubuntu can't in the realm of the internet...which ubuntu will probably be fully caught up in the lacking areas in the next two years or so.

So new MS article says windows 7 will be built on top of vista's kernel.

So, I think I'll eventually upgrade my windows XP to reactOS, but only when necessary.

Since Vista was released in 2006 I have planned to stay away from vista for long as I can. that changed when my HP Pavilion laptop committed suicide on Feburary 2008.

I got another laptop, it's lot better, but it came with Vista.

Let's say that Vista grew on me. I do not like it, but I got used to it.
