Regardless of popularity, isn't it A LOT harder to virus any UNIX system? I don't know anything about it, so I could be wrong.

UNIX is generally more secure, and as long as you aren't running as root/superuser all the time you shouldn't run into too many problems even if you are dumb enough to click every link you see.
