Let's say it takes 2 seconds longer to load a 5mb file into RAM on a fragmented hard drive, & your system has to load 30 5mb files in the hour. That's a minute of your time wasted because yourr crappy windows machine has a crappy fragmenting file system.
EDIT: Also from my experience CPU & video chipset power means very little; it's all about the software you run. I can get Spore running at fullspeed on just fine on an old 2.2GHz P4 (non-HT) & an Intel 945gm integrated chipset. Of course this is after stripping un-neccisary services & keeping all background programs to a minimum.
