What freeware MP3 player do your recommend for Windows?

I use Winamp because of it's versatility with file formats, as well as the fact that there are a bunch of plugins for it. I currently use a VST Hostbridge plugin which allows me to use VST plugins for Cubase and other music editing software. --This allows me to use parametric equalisation instead of graphic EQ bundled with the software.

Audacity is a sound editor, actually, and you can also do simple mixing with it.

I have two recommendations, VLC media player, because it is a bit more open and compact, and WinAmp, for listening to more exotic formats such as RSN types, and for customization.

foobar2000 is the best, and if you are using windows use there wasapi plugin, to mute and stop all other system sound processing, does away with alot of system added noise.
Also the programs media managent is the best. I find it hard to use alot of the other programs, like winamp, to look threw my music library and set up playlists. Lots of people use winamp, but it is very far from the best, especialy if you apreciate sound quality over everthing else.

Another vote for Foobar here. I use it as my music player while playing PC games, as in-game music tends to annoy. For this purpose, foobar uses fewer resources than other players. I also use its media library (with album and artist sorting). Lastly, I use it to convert between formats.

Foobar is also gapless, one of the reasons I switched to it in the first place. Oh yes, there's also Replaygain, so every track can be set to the same volume.
