I feel your pain. I'm 22 and a sophomore in college, and bored stiff with my classes. My story is a bit different, but it places us in a similar spot right now.

When I was a kid I obsessed over mental arithmetic. I got very good with it, and when my dumbass shrink decided that {insert list of symptoms of Asperger's} meant that I had ADHD I was put on Adderal and a mess load of other drugs (the meds arent working, so we are going to put him on toxic doses of conflicting pharmaceuticals to just see what happens). I got scary good at math (was solving lengthy math problems in a flash on inspiration without doing any of the intervening steps), but felt the side effects hard. The unethical practices of him and his partner resulted in another patient murdering his partner (and the subsequent closing of their practice).

I was subsequently taken off all the drugs cold turkey and lost a large portion of my mathematical prowess. I had developed a superiority complex, and decided that putting forth effort in mundane matters (ie, everything) was below me. The patronizing ease of public school allowed me to keep up this self destructive farce for far too long, but it fell apart when I got to College.

Once I hit my personal rock bottom I rebuilt myself from the ground up and have just now, for the first time in my life, learned how to have a strong work ethic. The problem of boredom has surfaced once again, though, and I am working to try to solve it. Ive been thinking about writing a book explaining Geometry and Trig from the ground up (ie, requiring only the most basic of understanding of algebraic concepts)...

Because I hate the state of education. Teaching is not just the presentation of knowledge! A teacher's role is to be a catalyst. I think I could do a lot better job.

But thats another story.

Ive been thinking of trying to get back on Adderal and letting myself obsess. Im currently taking Sonata (for insomnia) and Buspirone (low dose, for anxiety/depression).
