Government computers have become part of botnets.
The government really should not ever be running Windows, especially not in critical areas where there is potentially sensitive information. The emphasis in government applications should always be almost exclusively on security and stability over everything else. Thus, RHEL or OpenBSD should be preferred platforms. Everything should definitely be encrypted, and the computers with critical information should probably not have an internet connection- just intranet for government computers.

Well Orwell, Tell that to a local Congress personal about the security risk of using Windows on government computers & the servers within several gov't agencies. I used upgraded my entire office at school run on Ubuntu Server and have all the Windows machines domained for security purposes and anti-spam. Not a bad idea and this rigged out server made out of scrap parts can be left on for years. Well of course with a automated restart once a week.
