Why on earth wipe your hard drive of Mac OS and Ubuntu so you can use Windows Seven? Ubuntu has GRUB so you can triple boot. Or in my case, Hexaboot (if that exists)

The way Macs handle partitions makes it a bit more of a hassle. You more or less have to use Boot Camp to get OS X and Windows on there, and after that you can install Linux, so long as you don't need a swap partition.

not really thinking about it seriously, but I'm more concerned with all the DRM that's likely to be built into it. I'm still running Windows 2000 on this system, but it's getting more and more difficult to find stuff that runs on it.

I'm more likely to install the latest Ubuntu; maybe make a 2nd partition for Win 7, but to be honest, I can't afford MS prices once it deliberately 'goes obsolete'.

It's the 50-odd programs and 100,000+ plus files to back up I have to deal with first...;)

You got to be kidding. Use a beta operating system as a primary operating system? Not a chance.

This, pretty much. When it goes retail, I'll probably use it as primary since I'm on vista and its supposedly faster than vista and doesn't use as much resources. But for now, no.

Microsoft...EWW!!

Microsoft products have only ever gotten worse as time went forward.
Their $#!+ stinks more and more, and people pay more and more to smell it.

This tiny wifi linux laptop, loaded with free software I'm on now didn't cost a penny over $150.
I wonder if a Windows Disc costs more than this whole nice computer I got last month.

$150? That's less than what I paid for my Asus EeePC that came loaded with Linux; then again, I paid retail.

A Windows Disc probably would cost more if it's Vista, less for XP, but no less than $100.

Windows 7 seems alright so far, but I don't think I'll be upgrading soon. Vista gave me no problems so far, rarely crashes and never really had a problem with viruses/spyware. :?

I'm using Windows 7 x64 as my main OS. XP sometimes because the parallel port card I use for an EPROM programmer doesn't work properly with Vista/7.

Are any of you people currently using Windows 7 as your primary OS?

Do not do this!

The trial period for the Beta will run out in August/September and the OS partition will become pretty much useless after that (probably), so unless you want an OS that seizes up in a couple of months don't.

Also for good measure, keep your docs on a separate partition to your OS anyways.

I'm using Debian Squeeze right now- pre-beta. It probably won't be released as stable until 2011. Of course, it's Debian, so the stability is excellent.

Not really worth making 7 a primary O.S. I mean besides some compatibility issues brought on by M$ monopoly I'm fully content with linux.

I do however like Windows 7 though. Many due to all the improvements (especially in speed.) Also the fact that Microsoft inhabited over 200 features and pieces of source code from the open-source community. However in my opinion is that 7 is just another OS that really is nothing more than XP for a new generation. I mean the improvements 7 has are just an example of M$ getting back on its feet after Vista.

Oh and Windows 7 is good on Netbooks which is a plus. However Linux can do the same. Not too much different from Ubuntu except you pay big money for it. You are limited in so many ways in terms of software customization,

Tried all the Betas of 7 and a do like a lot of things. The fact that IE is not solely integrated is good. The aero desktop is improved, Speed and resources are better managed and the tablet pc support.
