When will hard drives change the minimum size for the sectors? I don't think 512bytes is adequate any more as multiple files will become quickly fragmented with sectors as small as this (excluding clusters)

Anyway - what about the size of the paging file? The processor can access huge amounts of it.

I heard that the new mac will have something like NTFS = more fragmenting?

I have a very, very, VERY crappy computer. Here are some of the specs.

Model: Emachines T3882
Graphics: Integrated, 64MB (won't even run Psychonauts)
RAM: 256MB
Processor: Celeron D 335 (2.8 GHz, the only redeeming quality)
Hard drive: 80 GB (decent)
OS: Windows XP Home Edition

I shouldn't need to say much more. I need to find a better graphics card ASAP. RAM shouldn't be a problem, seeing how it's $10 for 256MB.

As of right now I updated my office computer to this

Pentium 4 Processor @ 2.4 Ghz
1.25GB PC2700 DDR Memory
80GB Hard Drive
Intel Extreme Graphics w/ 128MB VRAM
Windows XP Professional SP3

Not a gamer so don't need much more than a intel onboard video chipset. As long if its a good chipset like intel that won't crap out and gives good video clarity I'm fine.

Finally, somebody out their on the internets who doesn't feel the need to overclock the crap out of everything just so they can get an extra 5 frames per second in Crysis. That machine is more than enough for alot of things and it just baffles me why people feel the need to "OMG MY PUTER IS 3 MONTHS OLD, IT STILL DUZ WUT I NEED IT 2 DO, BUT IM GONNA SPEND $3000 AND UPGRADEZORZ".

/facepalm

I agree - I see absolutely no point in forcing a computer to go at a speed it isn't supposed to go at. Unless you're underclocking it to remove the need for a fan. - that's the only point I can see.

Mine is more out of necessity - I can't afford to upgrade every few months even if I wanted to. If I did, it would be because I'd get the money back somehow, thus meaning I've made my money back on the computer I purchased. I would then buy a brand new hard drive, swap them out, and sell the computer to someone else before buying a brand new one. The hard drive would probably go into a case or be used in a RAID configuration.

I had a Performa... but I accidentally blew it up. To this day I have no idea how, but when I tried to turn it on the power supply just made a ticking noise and nothing would come up.

I found a cable to go from the Mac video plug to a regular monitor plug, and when I tried it, it died. :(

I'll be keeping my eye out for another such system.

Which specific Performa was it?

Please tell me you're kidding. Is that actually your computer? I mean, I suppose it would still work for basic stuff like web browsing, e-mail, and word processing. As long as you don't have to e-mail any of your Office documents to anyone else, as any office suite you have on that machine will be incompatible with modern ones. And you can't hack it either... the old Mac OS doesn't even have a command line anywhere.

I miss the Launcher... those were the good old days.

That's one of the 13 computers that I own. And yes, I use it every day. It's a wonderful machine.
