lol, cannot say the thought hasn't crossed my mind.....so far though I asked if 'she'(I say that because it has a female voice) likes cats and the response was along the lines of 'yeah I like cats, cats are cool man' I thought that was funny...and I've had it tell me jokes.


So it takes things literally then-- it's autistic, that's funny.

I'm afraid it's not that it's a link that pops up or anything. It's my e-mail address, because Microsoft MAKES you provide them with an e-mail address before you can be "accepted" by Windows 10 as one of its users. And then it goes and prints your e-mail address across the screen under your name. (Which I also don't want on the screen. I'd been using an account called "User" on Windows 7, for cryin' out loud. I don't need or want my personal stuff on the screen. What, are they trying to remind me who I am and how to contact myself? :lol: )

Hmm I don't have my name or email on my screen last i checked..that is annoying if there is no setting to change that. I just created the Microsoft account, because I was interested in the extra features it includes, using my least important/serious email address I have a different one for important stuff. So if my computer does that as well now, it wont be an important email on that screen. You could make a nonsense email on gmail or yahoo or something the email you log into Microsoft with to that that way your actual email wouldn't be visible.

It gets better...one of the jokes was, something like...

A infectious disease walks into a bar, the bar tender says 'your kind isn't welcome here.' So the disease says, you're not a very good host'

of course the robotic voice added to it.

Maybe it's part of a strategy to get users acclimated to doing as they are told in the hopes that this will increase compliance when the bill comes due for this "free upgrade" in the form of demands for an annual subscription to necessary system updates and a higher tier annual subscription for continued access to OneDrive, full Cortana services, MS Office, etc.

Yeah, the subscription model seems to be the new thing in computer software. You no longer own Windows, you're just renting it. That has ramifications far beyond pricing.



Based on any reading I've done, the upgrade is free for a year if one qualifies there are a few things that would make one ineligible for the free upgrade. After that it will go for like 100-or 150$ to purchase it but if one gets the free upgrade they will not have to pay that. based on what I have seen windows 7 isn't all that much less expensive. There is nothing about a mandatory surprise subscription that requires you to pay each month. If that happens....its quite possible to find windows 7 to install instead I would if they did that.

I'm still on 8, I generally upgrade around a year after a release so most of my drivers and software will work. That being said, I haven't really looked at 10 yet, but the process Adamantium mentioned I've seen in several other software packages I use recently: Adobe is now a subscription type service, all my music writing software is a subscription service or has announced it will be. It just seems like the new trend and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft jumps on board. The free upgrade has to come with some sort of strings attached, possibly ones that Microsoft hasn't announced yet.

We should all join the open source movement and start building free linux alternatives to these subscription things. It would be awesome if anything on linux could even be considered vs Adobe CC.

I've already started trying to develop my own personal assistant :P I've named him "Baymax", and he is actually not far off Cortana, except he for some reason crashes when I ask him to tell me about Isaac Newton or bananas... I started developing it after seeing how awesome the Amazon echo looked, with an eye to building my own alternative with an RPI.

Back to the main topic at hand though, I also don't like how bitlocker is only available in a crazily expensive upgrade to windows 10 ultimate (waiting before using diskcryptor encryption with windows 10) AND windows 10 is missing a bunch of my programs from the start menu/search index, leaving me to have to open them through the program files folder...

It also would have been cool if they had finally introduced things such as native x window support or native support for OpenVPN.
