You're kidding me? The 845 chipset is so common, they had no drivers? Ballmer must have been hungry and consumed them with his massive tongue I suppose then.

Or jumped up and down on them while shouting "developers" numerous times! :P

Indeed that is a possibility as well.

I had problems downloading it, and also ended up with 3 keys. I just enable Java in Mozilla. Worked a treat... :D

Of course. When I filled out my information and they asked me what my current primary client OS is, I laughed when the options were "Vista, XP, earlier version of Windows, or Other." I, of course, selected "Other." :P I'll let Safari try it out.

well, I tried to install some Windows 2000 drivers (realising that 7 is NT based like it's predecessors (namely Vista and XP), all I can say is that it spat them out and reverted back to "Standard VGA...." drivers instead.... think about every PC with an Intel 845 chipset in it running 7 without the onboard graphics... Fortunately the Intel Desktop Board D845GERG2 has an AGP slot, wonder if I can scrounge a graphics card from something, heh

does microsoft offer people to download through the use of a torrent? this download taking too long.

why did microsoft make me sign up for something just to download this? what's the point of that, to waste my time?

The point of signing up to download it is they are restricting the number of different people who can download the file to 2.5 million, so you register to own one of those spaces.

I downloaded it, and it is very improved compared to Vista. However, it doesn't include "basic" features such as printing to PDF and spell check in every text box. I would assume they didn't implement this because of backwards compatibility.

Microsoft is now allowing unlimited downloads of windows 7.

I loaded it up in virtualbox and haven't been all that impressed. I have only played with it for a few minutes because I got bored of it.

I've been playing with it since the release (we stayed up most of the night to download it), and I'm actually quite impressed. It's considerably more stable and responsive than Vista (I was dual-booting with Ubuntu and tried not to use Vista unless I had to - it wasn't stable enough to be reliable, and had huge compatibility problems with a number of programs that I regularly use), and is actually behaving fine. The only time I've really managed to crash it properly I was testing IE. Works fine with FF & Minefield, and is no longer hogging all my system resources.
Since I HAVE to use an MS OS for a number of the applications I need to access for work/university, I figured it would be worth a try - anything would be better than Vista. For a beta, it's incredibly stable (on my system), and I will seriously consider actually paying for it when it's released...
UAC is annoying, as is Automatic Update - both can be turned off easily.

I downloaded and installed it into VirtualBox. It does have eye candy, and like in Vista, UAC can be disabled, but I'm not ready to ditch XP yet. Plus there's the DRM.

i'm at the point where nothing confuses me anymore

protip: you can turn uac off in 5 clicks

next week:

i dont like vistas uac, so i went back to xp

- another guy

Well, after using it on my primary PC at home for a while, I have to say I like it. I don't know why the didn't just call it, "Vista Plus" though. The UAC is still there, but it's better. . .I haven't felt the need to disable it like I did with Vista. Video drivers are still lacking. . .but that will come with time. IE8 looks nice, but it's still really buggy. It renders a lot of pages incorrectly, and opening pages in a new tab doesn't always work right. Overall I think it's a good improvement over Vista, but more of a marketing ploy than it is a generational step forward in Windows technology. I ended up with a couple of keys so I think I'll try it on my Media Center too. Anyone made extensive use of MCE in Windows 7 yet?

I love the Windows 7 Beta. The snipping tool for screenshots is pretty cool. I haven't had any crashes, freezes, or performance problems. It's pretty good for a Beta.

Yeah I actually used my TV Tuner Card to record the Presidential Inauguration which was a 7 hour video through MCE in the Win7 Beta. The video came out perfectly, and it took a little bit of work to get Movie Maker Beta to convert it from WTV to WMV (it failed the first few times). I set it up to record ahead of time too. I was quite amazed that it didn't screw up somewhere.
