Same. Even just something as simple as searching google makes me so frustrated. The results are usually worse, and I used to think it was the screen size, but it's more than that, because I hate using my tablet for those purposes, too.

If you ever think 'bout discovering Jabber/XMPP channels... Just don't.
In spite of few people being there It's not long wait to stumble over genuinely r-worded hyperactive lunatics, and I mean that's not an exaggeration...
Gibberish noise tangling tech with religions and totalitarian governments. Somebody posting weird jew-related stuff. Some serious tinfoilery going on. The "Orgs" and hell knows what.

XMPP is really cool to host yer bunch of friends on, but don't touch these public channels even with two-metre stick. Maybe don't open ports for federation at all.
You'll find few cool people of course, but be prepared for severely brain-damaging stuff coming from the other...

I wish saner communication platform would automatically mean saner people...

So annoying when I manage to work out how to do something quite complicated just through trial and error on my laptop, then the next time I try to do it I completely forgotten how I did it.

Like downloading mods for the Sims 2 game (I have every expansion pack). Earlier this year I clicked around for ages, getting mods I wanted downloaded on my laptop and trying to get them into the Downloads folder for the Sims 2. I'd succeeded a few times, but there are more mods I want but I can't remember how I did it the first time. I spend ages clicking about but they still won't show up in my game.
I ask Google for help but I don't get much help there. It keeps saying I need to download another app or program to be able to do it, but I've never needed to do that before. It has nothing to do with recent computer updates either, because all the results about the Sims 2 are from like 16 years ago.
So it must just be me missing something I didn't before. I don't know why things have to be such a drama to do on computers.

...If I was to describe current state of AOSP by quoting Sabaton lyrics

The smartphone world indeed is really unideal on several fronts. BTW: I use LineageOS, and several apps from F-Droid

In other words, router basically parked a car (desktop) on already occupied parking spot (IP address), pushing occupying car (server) outta it.

I love crappy network appliances.

You should use a hardware firewall and put all your personal computers behind it, and put any servers you have in a demilitarized zone outside the firewall. Oh yeah, and go all-wired (use a wireless bridge if your living space lacks the infrastructure for a modem connection). That's the only way the hardware firewall will work. You want to make it so there's only a single point of entry to your inner network.

Most people only use tech for browsing social media. For those people, a phone is typically sufficient, and it gives them the advantage of mobility. For me personally, since I do a lot of more heavy-duty stuff like music composition, digital art, programming, etc. I use a laptop or desktop for basically everything and I only use the phone for talking and texting. Not to mention the OLED phone screen messes up my eyesight if I look at it too much.

I think a large part of the point of mobile was making tech more futuristic just for the sake of making tech more futuristic. The natural progression of computers was from mainframes to minicomputers to microcomputers to PDAs, so smart phones and wearables were the logical next step. It's not like there was any pressing reason for doing so. But Apple is notorious for making unnecessary and arbitrary changes to devices just to create the next big tech meme, rather than actually making their tech better. Honestly, I don't think mobile technology has added much utility to the text sphere, outside of just enabling people to use their tech when they're out and about.

I see them as a big step backwards. They took us from open standards, and open protocols, to proprietary, toxic walled gardens. And it's wrong to text people while in the bathroom, using the toilet. It's disrespectful, like farting at the exact same time that someone else is trying to talk.
