I've had no issues with games under Vista even games that I've thrown at it made in the early 90s still work.

Well, of course you haven't, for reasons already covered...

Hey! I've got this awkward Pistachio nut I'm trying to open. Could you bring over that sledgehammer?

Guys we're getting off topic here but anyways I felt that I must join in this discussion for the following reasons

I have no problems with Vista seeing as I have on a new computer that was preinstalled. That said I have a dual boot XP/Ubuntu laptop and I had to reinstall Ubuntu (Edgy) twice. OSX is alright but I prefer using XP or Vista then Ubuntu (but still studying Debian) as I am not always connected to the net and the OS is nothing more then a tool. Not everybody will have flawless installations of the OS and not everybody will have their computer rendered completely useless.

Get Ubuntu For newer PC`s and XUnuntu for older PC`s. You`ll find that there is Power hidden in that 500Mhz Box that Windows can`t get a hold of.

Macs are the ultimate NT computer. Costs 4K for a 1.5K machine, but it's pretty and stylish and all the cool kids buy them.
Thread over, you win! :D

I remember taking the Vista training, and it recommended 15 gigabytes of Hard drive space for the OS...is that bloatware? or am I just showing my age?...;)

I just attended LotusSphere comes to you in Sydney. It's an event where IBM talk about the roadmap for the Lotus Notes/Domino product. In the last few years, they've completely turned the product around and (IMHO) it's back to leading collaboration again.

Anyway, their demo was just zipping along and I was looking at their laptop... did it have a glowing apple on it?

Well, yes it did.

They interrupted the whole proceeding to tell everyone that yes... they were running everything on MacOS and that everyone at IBM is either on Linux or Mac. The only place in IBM where we use Windows is when we're testing software.

They even offered assistance for anyone wanting to move off the OS.

I'm still using 98SE, but am contemplating upgrading to XP before MSFT stops selling them in June. I only have 256MB of Ram with a 1GHZ AMD processor, which was top of the line when I bought this thing 8 years ago. The motherboard is upgradeable to only a max of 376MB, but I don't think this would be adequate for decent performance because on my laptop, I have XP with 256MB of ram , and a 2.66GHZ processor, and it is very sluggish.

I have seen offers in a flyer from a giant computer store for a combo motherboard, 2 GB DDR ram and a 1.66 GHZ processor, all for 90 bucks.

The only reason why I would need an OS upgrade is for support of new audio hardware and other hardware. From what I've read, Vista requires a ton of Ram to perform adequately. An XP upgrade would cost 89 bucks. My current processor and Ram, old as they are, plus my 3 hard drives with a total capacity of 850GBs, suits my needs since I no longer play games. But to use a flash stick or external hard drive to backup data, or a new audio card, or digital audio processor, I would need at least XP.
