I guess this is a very popular Distro because everyone here is talking about it. It appears to be a notebook OS, because I don't hear much as a desktop OS, but what do I know! :P

Nope! Its a desktop OS, though I use it on my regular laptop as well. there is a special version for eeePCs, called eeebuntu. I think lots of people around here just use laptops.

Maybe what you were reading is that the coming version(8.10, in october) is geared to run well on low end machines. Thats true. Next springs version, 9.04 will be targeting on a 30 second boot(though in practice it wont likely happen).

Steve: The lack of a grammar check in OOo is a relief to me coming from MS Office. MS Word sucked at grammar and was always telling me to correct things that weren't wrong. It was actually quite obnoxious.

Amen to that! I could never get MSOffice to understand Aus english, which weirdly enough is how I usually structure my sentences. I'd get that stupid green thing below every other sentence.

Forget Australian English, it doesn't understand American English and it's made by a company based in America!

Are you both referring the grammar issue on the Mac's Office? I have had problems with the grammar (US English) on the Mac Office. The Windows Office has better grammar, with my experiences.

Steve: I haven't used any Mac office apps since the olden days of Appleworks, so I wouldn't know how their grammar goes. But I have repeatedly had MS Office try to correct stuff that isn't wrong.
