Swet song...PC vs Mac

One is an indvidual
One always confirms
One is very open
One has a closed policy as a norm
One is playful
One is dull
One runs the world
One has an influance that is null
One is gives you the most bang for your buck
One costs you all even the shirt on your back
One's name is PC
One's name is Mac!

Oh, and also, Windows will get loaded with malware if you try to watch porn with it.

On a serious note... get whatever suits you the most. If you want no fuss, get a mac. If you want to endlessly modify and experiment, get a PC. It's not what OS you use, but how you use it. For example I use Vista and it runs just fine for me. I don't care what people think, once I can get the job done then it doesn't matter.

I hate it when people say "OS X", as in, the letter X. It's OS 10, n00bs

Ubuntu anyone? simplest Linux edition available, wine works pretty well, and most drivers, aside from wifi, are included. However if you game a windows or mac would be nice.(most pc games come in a mac version now)

I haven't figured out this "aside from wifi" bit. Mine worked straight off.

I know that there used to be some hassle with WiFi. I don't know that that applies any more.

Mine seems to happily let me wander between networks without pestering about reconnecting.

I have to admit, my Acer Aspire One (Intrepid) is the first time I've used WiFi. Plus I've only used it on five networks, WEP and WPA, so far. It was a completely vanilla install, using the "alternate" Ubuntu CD.

They've improved their wifi support recently such that it worked for me easier than Vista did.

Also, the way Ubuntu handles networking is so much better than how Windows and OS X do it. When I'm plugged in to ethernet and there are wireless networks, Ubuntu sensibly gives priority to the wired connection, but also established a connection to the wireless network so that it will be there if I unplug my ethernet cable. Further, all the network settings and choice of what network I want to go for are right there in the top panel, with a helpful little icon showing if I have wired connection, wireless, or no connection.

OS X, in contrast, connects to wifi first, and then wired. Given that my university's network requires you to sign on every time you connect, this means that in OS X if I use ethernet I am actually on wifi for a couple minutes and then get interrupted to sign in to the wired network.

And Vista is simply an abomination. It does not handle networking properly at all, and doesn't even seem to have any consistent actions it takes that I could try to describe here. It's a mystery every #@%$ing time I want to connect to a new network in Vista. I won't even get into the misery that is configuring a printer in Vista- even a printer sold in a box labeling it Vista-compatible simply did not work properly. I shouldn't have to spend an hour just getting a printer driver installed.

Add that to Ubuntu's much greater performance over either OS X or Vista (even if it is bloated by Linux standards, Ubuntu is leaner than the main proprietary OSes) and the great eye candy it has. Though, on that note, Compiz has been seeming a bit buggy for me lately, so of course Linux isn't perfect. It's just better than everything else.

Note to everybody: stop comparing Macs to "PC"... the mac is a PC (if you want more reasons why, look around page 3 of this thread...)

I wish that Wine would work better in getting games to run. If it could do that, I would convert all my machines over to some form of linux. As it stands now, I have a gaming machine running XP, a laptop running XP (has XP on the recovery partition), a media center running Ubuntu, and a rendering "node" (basically a refurbished junk computer that I use to render 3d modeling stuff to free up my other machines) also running Ubuntu... I'm still a linux noob, but I'm trying to learn more... I'm taking a course in bash at college this semester...

I believe you have a spelling error in the above. The word is spelt: "supported".

Along with the rest of the mods, I also support free expression. I don't take kindly to people who break the WP rules, though. Personal attacks are not tolerated.
