This was found on the Google homepage today:
"Children with autism express their creativity in 3D. Follow Project Spectrum by Google. "

The link leads to a link to download Google SketchUp along with a video tutorial: http://sketchup.google.com/spectrum.html
I watched the tutorial and am very impressed. Has anyone else tried it yet?

Hey, found this thread when I searched to see if anyone here used Google Sketchup like I do.

Indeed, I design cities, buildings and airports with Google Sketchup. It's probably one of the most incredible tools I've ever had, and I so badly want to get the full version, but it just costs far beyond my budget. I've been building stuff for the last couple of years and got the hang of it pretty quick. I just love how I can have a vision of a building or an airport or something, and it becomes so incredibly easy to just take-off and go. Heh, when I get into it, I can easily spend 8-10 hours of pure nonstop uninterrupted work.

This is what Sketchup has empowered to me, a lowly 18 year old from Boise, Idaho...I can create! WARNING: Lots of pictures!

*Note: Many of these are from a fictional city I've been designing, a sort of alternate universe Boise that I call Pierpont, Idaho.

It'd be great to find others here who do this sort of stuff...sorry for the massive amount of pictures

Sorry. :(

Usually in the photo threads on other forums, I'll get scolded for putting the links and not the direct pictures on...my apologies.

Well, I do something like this, just not on so grand a scale. I've known about Sketchup since it came out, but never really got into it because the file format was proprietary (Maybe they've changed that? can it export .obj files?)

I use something called Wings 3d, which is free, and pretty easy to pick up. I've done a couple of buildings over the years, but found that they didn't get a lot of attention vis a vis other pictures (I post at a place that uses a figurine-type program called Poser, and if it ain't gotta girl, it aint' gonna get noticed...;)

I'm going to pic up another one this month called Hexagon 2.2, which is more of an 'organic' modeler, see if I can improve my skills.

Great modeling there, you could probably give these out, or possibly even sell them, if they're not in Sketchup native format....keep up the good work.
