Has anyone else thought about &/or done this? It seems like a fun way to waste my time in a productive manRAR, it just needs a good cash investment in the data line & server(s) hardware.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure whether that's still worth the investment, since there are so many companies out there already. You'd have to find a way to be really creative, innovative, or provide somethign that the other comps won't, in order for your effort to be productive, I guess.

I have experience doing this. The ones that thrive find some sort of nice: supporting a platform with a "cult" following (eg Ruby on Rails), provide cloud computing or utility computing resources, or some sort of value-added package.
