Turns out your book is not exactly yours... Amazon started to delete books from Kindle:

...which is why I will always prefer a library and records over the new technology - despite that, I still use digital when necessary.

I'm happy to use electronic formats so long as they are free and open. Closed proprietary formats leave the potential for a third party to screw you over at any time.

If anyone's wondering, the reason is that the publisher selling those books through amazon didn't have the rights too the books.

From what I am reading, they -had- been authorized before the publisher decided they didn't want a digital version out there (after the fact), and Amazon caved to them by pulling what was already paid for off their Kindles.

Orwell is dead. His works really should be public domain by now (such extended copyright protection is only a relatively recent phenomenon, and not within the original intended scope of copyright). None of the people who currently "own" the rights to 1984 and Animal Farm had a damn thing to do with the production of either book.

Copyright is to protect authors and other producers. Copyright protection should lapse fairly soon after the author is deceased.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the story on another website.

Is there no way to back up e-books onto removable media such as SD or flash drives?
