Firefox: One Billion and Counting

A little something that popped up in my Google desktop news gadget 25 minutes ago....

Quote:
It’s not even close to matching the number of hamburgers sold by McDonald’s. But the one-billion benchmark for the number of Firefox browsers served is notable.

The cheeky alternative to Apple’s Safari and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has not only survived, but it has thrived. Most estimates give the Mozilla Foundation’s Internet browser about one-third of that competitive market (Internet Explorer is far and away the dominant player, Firefox is number two).

I guess with Windows 7, where IE is no longer mandatory, eventually FF will beat IE. I like it much more than IE, and that's while I used IE for seven years and have only used FF for three weeks.

It doesn't help when Microsoft will call for IE when it is not default.

I think it's only in Europe where Windows 7 doesn't force IE on you. In the States IE will still be the only bundled browser.

Hang on, is M$ serious about the IE non-mandatory stuff, or have they faced the facts that they're slowly loosing their footing on the browser market?
So how would that work then? Would the installer ask me stuff about my browser preferences or would I just be left without a browser, not that I'm going to put a windows disk anywhere near my Ubuntu laptop!
I hope that my 3 PC's are part of the one-billion figure anyway, now just for M$ to write a program/script as an update that checks to see how many PC's don't use IE, and then there is a figure that I'd like to celebrate.

I used to be a hardcore Internet Explorer fanboy until I switched to Firefox. Now I'm a hardcore Firefox fanboy! :D
